Have you had his ears checked lately for fluid? My LO was also very quiet - never babbled - and while he had only had two ear infections, it turned out he had chronic fluid in his ears. Once he got tubes around his first birthday, he hasn't shut up since! It was almost instant.

Mine never cooed and didn't say anything until she was 1. Then she only said dada and doggy for a long time. She has persistently tested behind on the developmental checklists for expressive language. She just started to talk now, closer to 2 years. Our doctor was worried about it, but was content to monitor because her receptive language is fine. I think she is probably now average for a 2 year old. My baby at 2 months makes a lot more sounds than my toddler ever did. I think my toddler has a reserved and introverted personality. She talks a lot more when she's with people she's comfortable with.

My first was an early talker, but my 15 month old hardly talks, laughs, mimics, etc. She has 2 words she will say and 4 more that she will sign. She's content with not talking. Our pediatrician isn't worried because she understands us just fine.

My older lo was very quiet and seemed to be behind with his speech when compared to other kids. The doctor was only slightly concerned at his 2 year appointment and by 2.5 seemed to be starting to catch up. The past couple months he has really had a language explosion with several new words every day and starting to speak in full sentences. It all seemed to happen when he started having a lot more play dates and going to the playground every day.

My son was similar, and he only had 3 words at 18 months (but over 40 signs). Totally on track now at 2.5.

My daughter was similar. She never really cooed, refused to mimic, and had zero words at a year old. Now at a little under two and a half she is caught up and right where she should be. I wouldn't be worried yet and give it some more time. I know I felt very discouraged at times when I would see babies/toddlers around her age way ahead of her but kids just do stuff at different times.

HIs hearing was checked as a newborn and he was fine. I have asked his pediatrition and she doesnt seem to concerned. He has once said "dada" . and sometimes make little noises but is very quiet. would you be concerned?
