Well, I caved and ordered the kitchenaid attachment. We should be coming into an abundance of zucchini soon.

i just got one (zoodle slicer, handheld, $12.99 on amazon) and i really like it! i doubt DS will eat them bc he only likes shape pasta vs. spaghetti, but DH and I are all in (whole 30!)

I've been really wanting to get one. We friend brought hers over to test out one day and the kids loved the zoodles. @inspiralized on IG also posts a lot of great inspiration. I just need to decide which I want to get.

However, doesn't make my kids eat their veggies any more than they already do:)

I want one! We've got about 6 zuchinni/squash plants growing right now.😂 I'm intending on borrowing one and see if my kids will eat zoodles. If they do I will invest in one.

i have a hand held spiralizer. We don't use it often but when we do, we love it. The zoodles are delicious and the texture is great. Ours also has a side that makes wide, thin ribbons for salads.

There aren't words for how much I love my spiralizer. I have the Inspiralizer bought from amazon. I almost got the kitchen-aid attachment after seeing it demoed at an event. It seems more powerful, but the one I got is half the price and still super easy to use. I make zoodles maybe every other week, but I use the flatter shape to make fun veggie salads like: http://www.foodiecrush.com/zucchini-and-fresh-corn-salad/ I find it way easier to use than my mandolin and I don't worry about losing part of my finger.

@looch: I have the stand-alone Paderno, but I actually saw an infomercial for the Kitchenaid attachment. It looks like it works the same way as the Paderno - you just stick the veggie on and the mixer does the work (instead of you hand-cranking it like on mine).

FWIW, I love my spiralizer. D absolutely devours the zucchini noodles, and he doesn't ever eat veggies. I've spiralized zucchini, sweet potato, yellow squash, and broccoli. The kid won't TOUCH broccoli in it's natural form, but he killed the broccoli rice I made. So it definitely fools him, even when he watches me make it!

To keep the texture crisp rather than soggy, I spiralize, then lay them out on paper towels with salt for at least 30 minutes. Then I flash-sautee them, just to warm them, and then pour the sauce on.

This is one of those things that I'd be super stoked to buy and would try once and would never pull out of the cupboard again. It just isn't practical enough for me. :silly:

That said, the noodles look cool and I feel like it would be a fun way to eat more veggies.

My kid is only 10.5 months old and loves absolutely everything, so I don't think her opinion counts in this case

ETA: @T-Mom: Another zucchini recipe that my daughter and most of my friends' kids love is zucchini cut into French fry shapes, tossed with olive oil and s&p, roasted in the oven and then tossed with some balsamic vinegar for the last few minutes of cooking time. Just an idea :)

@looch: ok that makes sense. Yeah I'm not really about hiding stuff either, but they really have turned their noses up at every variation of zucchini I have made, like breaded zucchini sticks, etc, so I'm wondering if making it like pasta will be more fun for them (plus the whole reducing carb benefit for me).

@Happygal: I'm sorry you don't like yours!
@Sammyfab: I also have a mandoline which juliennes really nicely but I'm so scared to cut myself that I thought this might be an interesting option...

@Mrs.Someone: the picture of the spiralizer looks so huge so yeah... If it is going to collect dust and take up space I really shouldn't get one, huh!

No, but I want one!! My BFF swears by hers. I make zucchini noodles using a mandolin but I find it time-consuming and I'm prone to cutting myself so I need a spiralizer! I've also seen lots of recipes recently with sweet potato and squash noodles. Yum!

@looch: Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer. Over 2,000 reviews on Amazon, and most of them positive. You have to really jam the food on the end, and I hate seeing the core of food wasted.

@T-Mom: I lightly boil them, but, it's like zucchini, not noodles, if that makes sense. Have you tried spinach spaghetti? I don't think my son would go for it, honestly.

I don't subscribe to the idea of trying to hide things, if anything, I'd let my son turn the crank, he'd be into that for sure.
