We just transitioned to 1 nap at 20 mo. We may have waited even longer to transition but we started full time daycare and they only have 1 nap. So far she has adjusted well (crossing fingers!)

Your experience sounds exactly like ours. His wake time got to be like 3-4 hours so his 2nd nap eventually got too late and we pushed ahead with 1 nap!
I commented in your thread yesterday so some of this is me being repetitive, sorry!
He's now 20 months. We switched to 1 nap 80% of the time at 18 months, but we struggled to find the right balance (1 nap vs 2 naps) for a couple months before that. MOST days he's ok with taking 1 nap. I try not to do more than 5 hours awake; at least in the first part of the day. He does better on a longer stretch in the 2nd half after his nap. So if he wakes at 6am, nap is 11. 7am, nap is 12.
BUT some mornings he is insanely cranky so I can still put him down for a 9am nap no problem. He is 20 months now and I just think he's higher sleep needs than most. He could still easily take 2 naps if it didn't screw with our day so much. But he's MOSTLY ok with 1 nap, as long as there's a lot to entertain him in the morning. So that's when I have long classes scheduled (1.5 hours plus travel time takes up a good 2 hours), go out to breakfast, playground, walks, grocery shop, visit a friend...we really have to have lots planned to make it to 11/12 without a meltdown.

Oh and we take advantage of 2 naps where we can. Like if on a Saturday we have a birthday party or want to go to the zoo around noon, we give him a 9am nap. Then the later afternoon will be a catnap. He does fine with it and I feel better about that than skipping a nap all together.

I'm typing this while half watching TV so I hope it made sense!

First LO was close to 2 when he switched. I got double naps all my first trimester with LO2. Glorious.

LO was on 1 nap a day at her part-time daycare around 11 months or so (I think...) but still needed 2 naps until about 18 months on days that she was home, so 4x/week. Sometimes she still takes her first nap really early when she's home! Like, last weekend she fell asleep at 10:30 one day

Yes, I kept my son on two naps well into his second year. He was close to 2 when we switched to one nap.

@catgirl: My son still excitedly runs to the stairs for his morning nap....I'm guessing it's because it's the only times he is allowed pacifier?! Afternoon nap he is not as excited to go down, but he still usually does without much problem!

Curious to see what others say. DD is 17 months and definitely still needs two naps a day. She sleeps 11/11.5 hours overnight, her morning nap is 1.5/2 hours, and her afternoon nap is at least 2 hours. Whenever we try to push a nap she cries and drags us to her room and tries to climb in her crib. So yeah, I don't see her dropping to one anytime soon.

I think LO2 might transition late. She's still on 3 naps at 9 months! I feel sure LO1 was on 1 nap by around a year old so I don't know how LO2 will be anywhere close to that in 3 months.

R is 17.5 months and we keep trying to get him on one nap...but it's clear he still needs 2 naps a lot of days! He really doesn't fight taking 2 at all, it's just the second one got really late and it got hard to plan our schedules so we pushed ahead with one....and then had to go back. I'm wondering when he will really be able to do just one nap? T was solidly on one nap by 15 months so this is very strange to me!
