It isn't a quick process if it was it'd worry me more lol. :) we also considered adding a front bar between his legs but we never found a good way to do it. I really wanted the Tripp Trapp (still do) but it was out of budget so we got the wooden one from Ikea. I'm pretty happy with it, especially for the price. We don't use an insert though - why do you want one? It's just a grodie trap for food and gets icky and neither of us wanted to clean it.
