My stylist told me red dye fades the fastest and required the most upkeep- he knew me and that I wasn't going to be back in 6 weeks for a touch up. We did caramel ones instead which blended in nicely when they grew out. Grey doesn't really take color. It will help some to have highlights to mask the grey some. I've got so much grey right now in my dark hair and nothing seems to work the way I want it to.</p> <p>I have a more olive complexion and tend to do red tones in the fall/winter and gold/copper tones in the spring/summer. I can pull both of the looks off. But the problem with dark brown hair is that it doesn't take lighter color. So basically they have to bleach your hair and then add back the lighter color. It's a pain in the butt.
