We started DD around 2.5 She recently started to like going to daycare (after about 3 months of being there). DD is very attached to people and she only went to day care two days a week for about 8-9 hours a day. It was rough for her but eventually it worked out when I found out why she disliked going to daycare. She told me she was lonely. So the teachers paired her up with another little girl and now they're besties.

DS started daycare right at 2. He had always been home before. It was a rough transition for him, but part of it was because he was in a bilingual school where he didn't speak the main language. We did a gradual transition over about a week and a half where I stayed a bit and then he only went for a few hours. He cried every day for the first 3 weeks and he only went half days for the first 6 months (they didn't have a full day spot until then).

We started preschool at 2.5. My son is very different from yours. He just missed my and says bye mommy, but at preschools in my area seem to prefer a gradual transition, so if you can find somewhere quickly, I think that would really help your daughter adjust. Some in home daycares only have 4 or 5 kids which might work really well for her...

We started at 2. My mom watched him at home until that age. He went M-F from about 7:30 to 2:30. I didn't do gradual. I figured rip the bandaid right off. I thought it may be confusing going some days and not others. He cried every day at drop off for about 3 months. But he stopped crying during the day after a couple of weeks. I knew he was fine there during the day. He always ate and slept well there. He doesn't nap at home but does there with no problem. He also eats better there. He still sometimes cries at drop off - I think they just go through phases.

@looch: that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for sharing your experience. We both work long days. Breaks my heart to see her so afraid and uncomfortable.

We started at age 2, I think my son was exactly 26 months old on his very first day.

We did a gradual transition, he went for the morning for about 3 weeks, then he eventually began having lunch there, and then finally, we had him start napping there. He never stayed past 3:30 (except on rare occassions) but the transition was long and gradual. He cried a ton during drop offs, that lasted a good long while.

We are having a terrible time finding a nanny for our LOs (ages 2.5 and 6 weeks) it's getting down to the wire, I have to go back to work in 2.5 weeks and I am thinking we might need to start calling daycares. My only concern is tat LO1 has been out of daycare and with a nanny since 6 months old. She get overwhelmed and crys at playgrounds if there are too many kids. I don't know how she could handle starting daycare at age 2.5. Anyone have experience starting daycare at this age? How did it go?
