I've seen adds in the subway for an app/security system called Canary that looked intriguing!

@78h2o: both but not sure if there's a way to only get email for sound OR movement. It's pretty sensitive, FYI, if the door is opened and my dog barks in the hallway, I get notified. LOL

@regberadaisy: I think the email notification feature would be good for me. Does it notify only for movement, or can you set it to notify for sound too?

@FannyMae: Thanks for the warning! I'll stay away from that one!

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the input!

We have the dropcam pro and use it as a baby monitor. It's super easy to set up. It had a wide angle lens so you should get the whole room depending on size. I get a notification/email when there is movement or sound so it's not an issue not having the app open when baby is sleeping.

I've never had a feed issue directly related to the camera itself.

I bought a foscam because of the reviews I read on here. I'm not a computer engineer but I'm not a dummy either. I could not figure out how to set it up with my mac. I've heard it's much easier to set up on windows!

when DD was a baby we had the iBaby monitor - we used our ipad as the screen, and when we were out I would use my iphone and be able to see/hear her while mum was babysitting. DD dropped the ipad and smashed it, and when we tried to re-set the monitor it stopped working - it was out of warranty and trying to get it fixed (i.e. sending it to the US from australia) was a total nightmare. I don't think I will go for the same one this time around.

My brother has a wireless baby monitor and he views it from his iphone watch. It can also be watched from ipads. If you are interested, I can find out what the name of the monitor is.

We have the drop cam/nest cam. The camera is great and it's quick to set up and very easy to use. I don't love it as a stand alone baby monitor. If my baby actually slept in her room we would buy an audio only monitor to supplement. (It does audio but you have to leave the app open and that's a pain overnight or of your want to use the device for other things.)

I have a Nest Cam (formerly Drop Cam) that could be used as a baby monitor, I suppose. It doesn't pan, but it zooms, has 2-way audio, night vision, and you can view it remotely via app or their website. It's incredibly easy to set up.

we've been using our foscam going on 2 years now and love it. going to get another cam for when DD2 arrives and maybe buy some more for security when we buy a house. it's a pain to set up, yes, but once you do it, it's easy to do again at a new place!

We have a Foscam, and DH set it up (he has a computer programming background, but he thought it was kinda tricky). I hate it, though, because both the sound and video cut out regularly.

We had the foscam too. Dh set it up and he didn't find it to be super difficult. I liked that there are essentially two safeguards for protection: the wifi password, and the camera username and password. It worked really well.

We have foscams all over our house, we use them as a security system. My husband has them set up so that he gets an email when there is movement, but I think that's overkill, lol.

I have a Foscam for security, but it would work perfectly for a baby monitor too. I didn't think the set up was bad at all. (But I'm also a SW engineer and tinker regularly in network settings and stuff)

I did it with a Foscam! It was a pain for me to figure out, though...I had to watch a step by step instructional video on YouTube to figure out how to do it (but I'm really not technologically inclined).

@Mrs. Pickle: Yeah, Foscam was the first that I'd heard of, but I also heard it is difficult to set up? I'm interested to hear from anyone who has it.

I was also intrigued by the ComfortCam and some others I found on Amazon.
