@kentuckygirl: It seems like they get tons of follicles/eggs but it becomes a question of quality and OHSS becomes a concern. Maybe they're not the huge out of control cysts? I just read what you wrote about your clinic and how you chose it, and wanted to comment that your insurance company's recommendation may not be about what's best for you - it might be about what's best for them. If you're thinking at all about a consult with the other clinics, you could call for an appointment and think about it until the appointment date since it usually takes a few weeks.

I had two cancelled IUIs because of enlarged follicles. I don't know if they were quite cysts, though. I did wonder if they were related to the fertility meds I was taking.

@spaniellove:  @Shutterbug:  Thank you both!

@spaniellove: yes, they are warning me the cyst will suppress the other follicles. I know some people with PCOS are successful with IVF, I wonder how it can work?

I had a cyst during my IVF cycle and no one mentioned it at my baseline u/s but it kept growing and it quickly became obvious. I had to do a lot of Googling to figure out what was going to happen (and did end up happening) - it suppressed other follicles from growing no matter how high they raised my dosage and I should have spoken up about canceling the cycle. But it must be possible to cycle with a cyst, because I just came across a bunch of people who have...I'll send that to you!

Gosh, so frustrating! I don't have experience with cysts, but if I were in your situation I'd call the other two RE offices and ask to speak to a nurse (or a doctor if they'll let you!) about your situation, and see if you get a better vibe from either of the other recommended places. You should feel that your doctor is willing to be as aggressive or passive as you want to be, or at least willing to explain the risks of more aggressive paths and why s/he wouldn't recommend them so you can make an informed decision.

Hi, I am looking for anyone who expereinced cysts during your IF treatments, either IUI or IVF. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but after my second IUI, I developed a cyst on my left ovary. The RE indicated it was not uncommon with the injectible stims I had been using.

February - The RE didn't prescribe any treatment for the cyst on that first cycle that I had it.

March - I went back in for CD 3 testing and the cyst was still there. At that time, I was prescribed a low dose BC pill. I had spotting during that cycle due to the low dose and was even told to double up on my pills. That must have messed up my cycle because it ended up lasting 49 days (unheard of for me). I would think that should be a sign that the low dose wasn't effective for me.

April - I again went in for CD 3 testing and the cyst was smaller but still there and my Estrogen was too high to start treatment again. I was told to take the low dose BC again. Fortunately, I didn't experience the spotting again.

May - I just went in for CD 3 testing and while the left ovarian cyst is gone, I have now developed a cyst on my right ovary, even though I was on BC and didn't take any stims. They are now prescribing a higher dose BC pill.

I am starting to feel that my RE isn't as aggressive as I want. I have expressed frustration at waiting and that I don't feel like I have time to waste. I was hoping to do one more IUI ("third times the charm") before having to move on to IVF. But the longer I have to wait and not actively TTC, the more frustrated I get. I will be 38 in October and have trouble ovulating. I worry that these delays are only serving to decrease my chances of ever getting PG.

Does anyone have advice or experience with something like this? Would you seek a second opinion? How did you find your RE/IVF clinic?

I chose this one out of 3 recommended to my by my OB/GYN because he was highly rated by my insurance company and I pay a lower copay. IVF will be completely out of pocket for us, it is not covered by insurance and we will have 1-2 tries at most, that is all we can afford. I don't want to go into IVF, not feeling confident that my RE is as aggressive as possible. I would appreciate any experience you may have! Thanks!
