@Shimmer: It looks like a not bumpy heat rash over most of my torso, and then I have little raised pimple like bumps that are more scattered. I did look up PUPPPs, but something I read said that it doesn't effect your bellybutton, and I've definitely got a few fun pimply bumps residing in there. I love describing rashes online -- sweet!! Hope yours gets better, too!!

My itching was awful too. I had some relief from oatmeal baths. My husband picked up a box of it at Walgreen's.

@Mrs. Tricycle: What does your rash look like? I have a rash on my arm that isn't itchy but looks like someone smacked me with a hairbrush and left tiny little bruises. The midwives said that is related to my liver function somehow.

Have you googled PUPPPs? That can cause an itchy rash in pregnancy as well and it can be REALLY uncomfortable! Hope you find some relief!

I've been Googling up a storm on the same thing. I can't stop scratching - my torso, back, neck, scalp - it's driving me nuts! I've given up on a bra as it just makes it worse - I even have a nifty rash to go along with it. I'm trying to decide if it warrants a doctor's visit . . . I think I keep hoping it will get better on its own.

All of my bloodwork is normal, but I itch all the time! I didn't know if that was normal or not. I told DH it's like psychological torture since it's better not to scratch, but OMG it itches!!!

@Shimmer: My husband would tell me to just resist the urge to itch. But it's so overpowering! I swear, I felt almost OCD at the very end because I was literally scratching until I was bleeding, and I couldn't stop, even when I saw my skin get all red and bloody. :(

Just try to endure it as best you can. It's almost over!

@Mrs. Bee: Thank you! But I didn't know that an epidural makes you itchy - do you know why by chance? I need to get one!!

@MsLipGloss: Thanks for the hugs! :)

@Honeybee: Thank you for sharing your experience! I hadn't been able to find anyone else who had it... the itching is something that I can't even begin to describe to someone who hasn't had it! Someone told me "well just don't think about it"... ha - right! The results of my blood test will determine if I get induced at 37 weeks (Monday!) or if I'll still wait until 38 weeks, since I'll be induced for the twin pregnancy anyway. Good to hear that it goes away pretty quickly! I don't know how much longer I can take it! My hands and wrists are pretty bad, but my chest and back are awful too. Ugh!

@Mrsbells: Yeah, it sucks! I'm sorry you were so itchy! I feel your pain!

I got choleostasis at the very end with my son. I was mildly itchy for about a month, and then it got really bad for about 2 weeks before I went in. I actually got the results from my blood test the day I went into labor, but sometimes, if it's severe enough, they will induce you. The good news is, the itchiness goes away pretty quickly after labor; I'd say it was gone completely within a week.

Try cold showers, cold washcloths, and ice directly on the itchy areas (for me, it was my hands/feet/wrists/calves). Cold will resitrict the blood flow, and it slows down the itching. Also, try to stay relaxed and rested, don't do too much physical activity that gets your heartrate up and your blood pumping harder through your veins. Maybe also ask your midwives about a sleep medication like Unisom or Ambien. I know how much it sucks; I was scratching myself bloody at the very end,. :( It will go away after the birth, but it's super hard to ride it out; unfortunately, giving birth is the only real "cure."

@Shimmer: That sounds miserable! Other than having sensitive skin (which tends to be dry and itchy), I haven't had any experience with this. I just wanted to send you ((hugs)) and well wishes for you and yout LOs.

oh my i feel so bad for you! i'm normally an itchy person day to day, and after i had charlie, the itching was soooooo intense. (epidurals make you itchy and i had a lot since i had a c-section). they gave me something for the itchiness (some injection?) and it helped a lot.

i don't know much about your condition, but i hope that you can get some relief! i can't imagine how terrible you must feel!

My skin all over my body has been excruciatingly itchy for the past two weeks and has gotten gradually worse over the last few days. My midwives drew blood last week and my liver enzymes were slightly elevated. Since the itching has gotten so bad, they drew blood again and said they think it's cholestasis.

The Mayo Clinic has on their website that cholestasis is just annoying to the mother but can be harmful to the babies! As a twin mom, I'm at higher risk for it too. I'm anxiously awaiting the blood results today, because I may end up needing to be induced sooner rather than later for the sake of the babies!

Has anyone had experience with this itching/cholestasis phenomenon? Lotions, showers, benadryl - nothing works. I am scratching myself raw and I honestly can't help it. It's so disruptive that I'm not sleeping more than 1.5-2 hours at a time!
