I have experience as the doctor. It is a fancy name for behaviors due to reflux. Treat the reflux and it will resolve. It has a fancy name because many people mistake it for a neurologic disorder-- which thankfully, it's not!

@cmbknyc: I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm glad you're headed to the GI. My LO has reflux, MSPI, and intolerances to wheat and beef. I found that the GI was also helpful in validating my concerns and worries and getting a plan going forward.

Hugs. Stomach issues are so difficult

@cmbknyc: Honestly the GI was the best thing we ever did, I love our pediatrician, but she didn't know the severity of DD's case until the GI sent her the records. She felt awful, but honestly EE is something that doesn't happen in kids so young, so I can't fault her for not realizing. She was very proactive with helping us find acid reducers and switching to stronger/different doses to see if that helped.

I hope the GI is as successful for you, and I would also keep up with your pediatrician, ask about switching from the Zantac to something else (that one never did anything for DD either.)

@cmbknyc: He started on Zantac and switched to Alimentum around 3 weeks old, and the Zantac didn't work so then we switched to Prilosec. After a pH probe showed not a whole lot, we took him off Prilosec and then months later after an exposure to dairy he started projectile vomiting daily for over a month.

Long story short, we got him back on a high dose of Prilosec and he's doing better and finally eating solids (he's almost 8 months). I know now not to give him anything fruit-based because it triggers the reflux again, and he's been diagnosed with a dairy allergy. Something else that was interesting is he's struggled with tummy time and his EI therapists feel he probably won't crawl because of the reflux pain.

I hope the GI appt goes well and if they can't get you in right away your ped should be able to switch the med too.

@LuLu Mom: I'm sorry your LO has gone through so much, but glad you have found a way to manage it! :( I'm making an appt to see a GI today, the Zantac has only made everything worse and seeing her suffer is awful.

We also dealt (and still do at 2 1/2) with severe acid reflux, she was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis not Sandifer's Syndrome so I don't know exactly what you are going through, but I know what it's like to watch a child in severe pain. LO wasn't diagnosed until around 6 months, when they kept telling me "she would grow out of it" and finally I fought for a specialist and he helped us get a diagnosis after witnessing her vomiting in his office. We are still on Prevacid, and honestly I think we will be for the forseeable future. She has to get scopes every few months (now we finally get to go every 8 months) to check her cell count. It's no fun, I hope you get answers and your LO gets relief soon!

I don't have personal experience with it...my LO just has awful reflux that came back with a vengeance but I know that doesn't compare. I've met someone whose child has it and it sounds so painful! Her daughter was diagnosed after an inpatient stay. I hope this is resolved for your LO quickly and she is feeling much better soon!

Hi ladies! After several weeks of seeing my LO twist, contort and turn her head backward when we laid her down (not every time but definitely everyday) we confirmed that she has reflux at her 3 month check up with Sandifer's Syndrome. Of course, now I'm googling and researching as much as I can but would like to hear some first hand experiences and whether it resolved after getting the reflux in check...

It's killing me that she's been in that much pain this whole time :crying:

Thanks in advance!!!
