Good luck! It did start a bit of a band-aid obsession, but that was probably inevitable anyways.

Eek, I had one person tell me to have her sleep with mittens or gloves on, but I am worried that she won't be able to sleep or wont stay asleep with those on. Just ordered a Melissa & Doug Brianna doll since she has long hair but a soft body, so I am hoping that she will pull the doll's hair instead! Definitely don't want to shave her head :(

A friend of mine's daughter did this and it got so bad they ended up having to tape her fingers together so she couldn't before she went to bed...hopefully it doesn't come to that!

I did this as a toddler and my mom got me a Raggedy Ann doll - the doll was balding pretty quickly, but I did stop doing it to my hair for the most part! And this isn't helpful for right this second, but as her hair gets longer and she can twirl it without pulling it out, that may help too.

A friend's daughter did this. They ended up shaving her head and I believe it took care of the problem.

My 20 month old's twirling (for self-soothing) turned to pulling a few months ago. She would then wrap the pulled hair around her thumbs and finger which occasionally cut off circulation. We wrapped band-aids on the fingers she would twirl with before bed or when she was doing it a lot during the day to curb the sensation and it has worked.

LO went through a phase where she did this around 2. She's always twirled her hair to self-soothe, then it turned into me finding clumps of hair in the crib. I just kept reminding her not to and it eventually stopped. Though, on occasion she will pull it if she's throwing a tantrum. She still twirls her hair to self-soothe.

In the past months, my daughter would occasionally tug on her hair or run her fingers through her hair in a fist as she nursed to sleep. About 2 weeks ago, she started pulling her hair out upon waking up, usually without making any noise at all so I wouldn't know she was awake yet unless I was paying close attention to our video monitor screen. She pulls her hair out from the top of her head and then pulls the strands between her fingers, playing with it. The past couple days, she had pulled out hundreds of hairs each day :( and now her hair is visibly thinning on top.

I plan on bringing it up a her next appointment (18 month appt on dec 8th) but I am wondering if anyone has experience with this or suggestions on how to get this behavior to stop? I read that it is a self-soothing act and that makes sense as it only happens in the crib. She has a stuffed Lambie doll in the crib with her but that doesn't have human-like hair. I am going to try a ragdoll tonight that has yarn-hair, but I don't have a realistic-haired doll yet. Not sure if one would work because I think she likes the sensation of pulling her hair :/ For now I have just been going in as soon as I see that she is awake and making sure to pay close attention to my monitor when she naps. I Don't want her to have bald spots :(
