I currently don't have sciatica or nerve/back pain... But I've had chronic lower back pain for years, herniated disc which all culminated in back surgery last year. After that, I had 8 weeks of pt during recovery and went to a chiropractor regularly. The pt had me focusing on exercises to strengthen my core and foam roller stuff. Good luck

I have had like 10 years of hip issues and it was nearly unbearable during pregnancy.

I agree with above about 1) exercise helping (even just walking, but for me jogging is better 2) foam roller!!

I've been to pt two different times (including currently) and the forum roller seems to be the biggest help ever. Ice also helps.

For pt she's having me strengthen random muscles aroun my hip/butt area to take pressure off of my hip.

Lastly, during pregnancy every said just deal with it, it's just one of those things... Don't let them ignore you!

This happened to me when I was pregnant with my son - it was so bad one Saturday morning when I woke up that I couldn't even stand up straight to walk to the bathroom. It was scary and painful and I had never experienced anything like it. I spent the majority of the day in bed and it eased up a bit, but I made an appointment with a local chiropractor that specialized in a method geared towards pregnant women - i'm drawing a blank at the moment of what it was called. Regardless, they worked MIRACLES. I whole-heartedly recommend giving it a try. I still go in for monthly check-ins, and I bring my two children, as well. It's very non-invasive and not only did it help with my hip, but I feel like the frequency of getting headaches drastically decreased, as well.

@Nskillet: sorry, just saw this! A foam roller is basically a big tube of hard foam. You lay/roll on it and it helps work out tight muscles. This link shows the basic idea of it: http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/foam-roller-exercises

When my sciatic nerve acts up, I sit on my foam roller and pretty much just roll over my lower back/butt/thighs. When I get to a spot that's really tender I stay in that spot for a bit until it relaxes.

I had some really bad hip pain during pregnancy. I went to a chiro after trying stretches, yoga, foam roller and other exercises. I think the latter made it worse! I went to a chiro that specializes in pregnant women and children. Felt better immediately and it didn't come back

Yes, I have had/still sometimes have this since I was about 30 weeks pregnant. I worry it will be terrible during my next pregnancy. One of these days I'd like to get to a chiropractor...

A very gentle warrior 1 (yoga pose) will lift off the pressure. Also, sitting is a nightmare so I tried to avoid that. Certain chairs or couches could really do me in. Sometimes dh would have to massage the site. What about ice?

@chibee this is me!! I work a desk job and I slowly have begun some stretches I found online. I plan to go for a deep tissue massage too. DH can only do so much!

I went to PT during my second pregnancy and it really helped. Lots of heated massages and exercises to stretch those areas.

@Nskillet: congratulations, by the way!!

I have sciatic nerve issues (not from pregnancy, just in general), and have found that it's so much better when I exercise regularly. I can tell it's time to get back to the gym when my hip starts bothering me!

I also have a foam roller that gives me some relief when the pain gets really bad.

Ohh I'm sorry. I've had some pains like that during pregnancy and the OB recommended a support belt and said often mothers wear it after birth as well.

I found very basic, slow, easy squats to be really helpful in trying to get things aligned and strengthened.

Hi All!

I'm around 16 weeks with my second baby and have had off and on terrible hip pain since my first daughter was born. I did some online searching and was shocked to see Hip Sciatica and a specific muscle being inflammed. This is exactly my pain site and I notice the most pain after sitting for extended period of time. I've also had lower back pain which shoots down my leg.

Any tips for stretches or recovery?
