@Mrs. Carrot: my daughter had just her adenoids out at 15 months after 12 months of constant illness 😞
We had such a great experience, and it is NOTHING like the tonsillectomy (which my then 3 yo son had the same day). My DD was only under about 15 minutes, woke up crying but settled with a hug then was happy and slept 13 hours that night!! We didn't even have to give pain meds at all.
The big plus for us was that P stopped getting sick all the time, she went from constant illness to "normal" colds in cold season only... I really highly recommend it to anyone who's ENT has suggested it! Our ENT explained that the adenoids can "hold" a low grade chronic infection and constantly run down a kid's immune system... It definitely worked for us! P didn't have any side effects or recovery time at all.
Tonsils are a whole different ballgame though 😬 Although my DS's experience wasn't actually too bad.
Feel free to wall me or ask here any more queries!! Xx

My son (also 3) just had them out at the end of July. The same day as surgery, he was jumping on the bed, full of energy and feeling fine. The subsequent 2 days he was slightly subdued, but still ok. He has the surgery on a Friday and I kept him out of school until the following Thursday. However, around 8 or 9 days after surgery the pain reappeared because the scabs fell off, so we had to start the heavier medication again. All in all though, it was really not too bad!

However, I can't say for sure it has made a difference yet. We were hoping to improve his sleep (he has sleep apnea) but we are still having multiple night wakings. Also, he just got super congested/cough this past week. But hopefully long term we will see the benefit!

Eta- my son was tonsils and adenoids.

We followed up with LO's ENT today after six months of nearly non stop ear infections and stuffy nose, and she recommended we take her adenoids out because they are larger than normal and likely would allow all the fluid that hasn't been moving to finally clear.

Does anyone have experience with this? She described it as a pretty minor procedure and basically that kiddo will be able to go back to school within a day or two (she's 3). I'm seeing some conflicting reports about downtime and side effects online (though it might be because adenoids + tonsils are more common rather than hair adenoids). Would love some first hand experiences if anyone has them.
