I have oral allergy syndrome to some fruits, mostly banana and pineapple.

I can eat one plain, but if I have a ton (like if it's blended or juiced and i'm consuming multiple bananas or tons of pineapple - Like pina coladas), I get really itchy.

So I wouldn't totally rule out banana or pineapple for your daughter just because she'd had them previously. You usually end up consuming more of something when it's blended, so it could have been the amount she was exposed to, not necessarily just the type of fruit.

My son has oral allergy syndrome, but his reaction is to pineapples...for now. His doctor says to keep an eye on him because it can happen with other fruits and vegetables. The interesting thing is that it’s only fresh, not cooked!

I also have a melon allergy, but only to honeydew and cantaloupe. Watermelon and other melons are fine. Also something that developed around 10 yrs old, but for me, hasn’t gotten either worse or better over time (my reaction isn’t that severe, so I test it out from time to time).

@Ina85: It was around 10, like around puberty. It got worse and worse with each reaction.

@Adira: Yes, I'll have to ask about this. I read about this and was looking into more on melon allergy/sensitivity etc.

My mom had a melon allergy. It's kind of the opposite of @misolee: in that when my mom was pregnant she apparently ate so much melon that she developed one afterwards.

Allergies are funny.
My BFF has a melon allergy she developed after high school. She has to stay away from all melons including watermelons which she loved. When she was pregnant, she was craving watermelons and took a small bite. And no allergic reactions! She thought she outgrew it but after she had her baby, the allergic reaction came out. She tried again during her second pregnancy, and no allergic reaction. So we joke if she wants watermelons, she needs to get pregnant again.

My DH has a melon allergy (mouth and throat gets very itchy) and I'm pretty sure my LO has one too (he vomits from it within 0-4 hours). We're getting LO tested when he is 2.

It's a bummer because they both LOVE melon. DH wasn't allergic until about age 10, and we didn't realized the vomiting was a reaction for LO for awhile.

@Ina85: Ask your allergist about oral allergy syndrome. Some people who have a ragweed allergy react to melons like this due to OAS.

Not sure if this is helpful, but my BIL has a melon allergy that he's never outgrown as of age 28. He's also allergic to mangoes and some other tropical fruit and I know some allergies go hand in hand so it might be worth looking into.

@Mrs. Pickles: Yes, to weird bodies. My allergies have changed with each pregnancy too, even being different during then after. So weird.

Allergies are an interesting thing, I can only speak from my experience. I was about 10 when I found out I started having anaphylactic reaction to melons. Then I became allergic to all fresh fruit... everything. I did allergy shots for 7 years, then I could have some fruits. I had my first kiddo, I could have everything ( this was a great time) After my second, I'm back to having reactions to melons. Our bodies are so strange.

I didn't even know people had melon allergies. Unfortunately my 10 1/2 month babygirl has a melon allergy  We spent Thanksgiving with my parents and my mom gave her a banana pineapple honeydew juice drink right after she made it with the blender. The skin around her mouth was red right after she started having some (I spoonfed it to her) but she has eczema so I didn't really think anything of it, I just thought her eczema was flaring up around her mouth. After she finished, she was coughing a bit so I gave her water. An hour later her mouth was swollen and hot to the touch. I was freaking out and dh gave her childrens benadryl and we gave her a bath and it subsided. She didn't have any breathing problems but it was still really scary and awful, I felt so bad for her. She's had banana and pineapple plenty of times and never a problem but that was the first time she's had any type of melon so dh and I are going to take her to an allergist. For any of you with lo with melon allergy, did it ever go away as they got older?
