I took Diclegis (the time release, prescription version) because like you, in the afternoon I felt sick. If the unisom+b6 help you, but seems like it wears off, Diclegis might be the answer for you.

I had to take it up until 31 weeks with DS2. I tried multiple times to wean off and felt too sick. I was never sick with DS1 or this time with DD.

For me the trick was 50mg of b6 morning, noon and night with 1/2 a unisom tab at night. The extra b6 was key. Good luck!

Took that combo every night before bed from 6weeks-14 weeks. It helped me sleep and I would feel pretty good until about 11am, so I knew I had the morning to get things done.

Well I used the B6 throughout the day today as well as some sea bands. I actually made it off the couch and am feeling much better. Eating on the other hand isn't happening but at least I'm not as nauseous.

@MommySLP: I just tried this starting 2 days ago and I'm finally noticing a big improvement. I definitely feel a lot better than I did, though I still have no appetite and food aversions. I also could only get 100mg B6, so I cut mine in half and am taking 50mg in the morning and 50mg in the afternoon. Apparently you can take up to 200mg for morning sickness, so I figure I can add in another 1/2 tablet if I need it. Hope it helps you too!

@ShootingStar: I found it helpful at first, while it was still on the milder side. Then I had to move on to Diclegis, at max dose; the extended release feature seems to make it work more consistently. The fatigue decreases the longer you take it. At some point I also had to add phenargan as needed on the worst days.

Just a note, insurance usually requires you jump through hoops getting preauthorization for Diclegis and Zofran, due to the cost. My insurance company makes me do it every single month. If you need these meds, don't wait until you are desperate, since that process is likely to take a few days.

It didn't work for me but Diclegis did. I've read they're formulated slightly differently and diclegis is slow release. I also had to take Zofran occasionally. The diclegis will make you tired at first but you'll get used to it.

@MommySLP: cut up the B6 and take it first thing in the morning, at lunch, and dinner or early evening. If it wears off by 1 you probably don't want to cut down the Unisom dose but take it earlier and go to bed early.

Ok so I felt pretty great until 1pm. Now I feel horrible again. I'm hesitant to take any since the unisom makes me so sleepy & we have Christmas Eve festivities to go to soon (I'm in the west coast). Anyone have suggestions? Maybe I should take a 1/4 unisom? I also only have 100mg B6, but maybe I could cut those down too?

It helped so much for me, I was taking it nightly from 6 weeks til about 12 or 13 weeks. The only problem with it was that I got so used to having a sleep aid that I suffered some insomnia for a week or two getting used to falling asleep without it! Looking back (and if i use it in future) I think I'll cut down gradually over the course of a week or so. It was brilliant for my nausea though.

Yes! 1/2 worked for the more severe first trimester nausea and vomiting and a quarter worked fine from about the halfway point. I think after a few days I wasn't as tired because I was sleeping better too - so if the 1/4 is not enough, just try 1/2 and see if the exhaustion become more manageable. You can also take a couple B6 throughout the day to prolong the effects. With my second pregnancy where I was just nauseous and not vomiting I only needed the B6.

Glad to hear it is working for you! Just wanted to chime in, I took Diceglis (prescription version of the same thing) for my last pregnancy from week 7 to 12 and it was a godsend. I did get incredibly tired from it for about a week but then my body adjusted and I felt good without the drowsiness from then on out. So just wanted to say that you might be able to take it up a notch if you need it eventually if your body gets used to it.

Ok so I'm cautiously optimistic. I took it last night & so far this is the best morning I've had. I'm definitely only going to take a 1/4 unisom from now on---the 1/2 made me super drowsy. Thanks for all the positive stories! Hopefully it'll continue to work!

I took it with both pregnancies and it didn't help. Last pregnancy I got Zofran. It helped. This pregnancy I got a RX for Diclegis and it helped tremendously. It supposedly is the same thing as B6 and Unisom, but I think maybe the extended release part of Diclegis may have been what helped me.

Me! It's truly a godsend for me. I had hyperemesis gravidarum with my first and it helped a lot but eventually I needed to layer in zofran. This time though the b6 and unisom are keeping it pretty much in check. I find that I can take it before bed (it takes about 45 minutes to make me tired, I don't notice feeling better before going to sleep though.) I sleep well but can also wake up with my toddler if I need to. In the morning I'm not by any means 100% but I can eat and that helps too. I find that not starting the day sick and unable to eat helps her me out of that cycle of misery. I hope it helps you!
