@banana: It's not *that* small, but it's definitely small enough--it's about the size of those old disposable cameras.

I love the manual settings. My dad actually has the newer one, and he loves the settings for the auto focus during manual. I like that I can change ISO or f-stop or shutter speed or focus or all of them, or have it completely automatic.

BUT it is not good for sports photos--at least not on autofocus--because it takes a moment to focus and you miss the moment.

As for the zoom--it *IS* a pocket camera, so it's like having a 35mm and no zoom--it works fine, but you have to remember you can't change lenses at will.

@banana: I haven't shot video yet so can't comment on that. However, like @StrawberryBee: said, the zoom is a little lacking so you can't take distant shots. Then again, it isn't a SLR. Most of my subjects have been in a close enough range that I haven't had an issue with it the picture pixelating or anything. It's nice that you can shoot RAW pictures also. My photographer friend loves it!

The body is compact, but the lens protrudes out a little bit. It fits in my purse just fine and when I wear it around my neck, it isn't too heavy or bothersome.

I have the LX5 -- my sibs got it for us as a wedding present last year. My sister loves it; she got gorgeous pictures with it of the wedding flower prep. I get...more mediocre shots. I probably need to sit down and read the manual to really get an idea of how to use it.

I do feel like the zoom on it is really lacking; I came from the Canon S2IS which I loved until it broke. With the LX5 I can't pick my stepchildren out of a crowd.

@pastemoo: Awesome! What do you love about it the most? Is it pretty small/easy to carry? I've never seen one in real life so I'm hoping it's pretty compact!

I have the older one-- the LX2. I used it to take the photos for our birth announcement. I LOVE it.
I use the video feature only rarely, and don't know much about video so I can't really say if it's good or mediocre or great for video.

@Alivoo01: Oh you have one? Awesome! Glad you really like it! I have a DSLR but I hate lugging that big ole thing everywhere I go. So I always end up leaving it at home. I wanted something that was more portable but that had more options than a regular Point & Shoot. Have you tried shooting videos on it yet?

I do. I bought it when it was on sale on Amazon in December. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play with it, but for what I've used it for so far. I really like it. It's a great "hybrid" camera since I'm not ready for a full on SLR.

This is probably a long shot...but do any of you own the Panasonic Lumix LX5 camera? I'm thinking about buying it but wanted to get some first-hand reviews from people before forking over $400 for a new camera!
