@SweetiePie: I've been using ours for 4 months now :). On the positive side, it is SUPER easy to install. The weight isn't a *huge* issue. The worst part is bringing him from the car to his daycare room. Other than that I only go about foot from the car to the stroller. Or, DH carries him.

We have had a small problem with ours though, and I'm not sure if this is common in Mesas. Every so often when we tighten the straps (you pull the single strap at the bottom) only one side gets tightened. It's supposed to evenly tighten both, but it doesn't always work correctly. So then we have to tighten and loosen repeatedly and it's usually best corrected by taking DS out and doing that, then putting him back in. So, not super thrilled when that happens. But maybe it's just our seat. Or maybe this happens with all infant seats? IDK. #firsttimemom

@SweetiePie: I also forgot to mention - once you get used to lifting those heavy strollers, that Mesa will feel like nothing!

We got the Mesa! No experience using it yet since lo isn't born yet, but we have practiced installing it (we don't have a car and so will be using it in cabs, zipcars, rental cars, etc). We have the Cruz so we were sold on not having to use adapters (one less step when getting into those cabs!). We were told by car safety in cabs experts (only NYC has a market for that!) that the Mesa and cybex were easiest/best for cabs, and the cybex seemed a little less sturdy to me in person. Plus, adapters

@SweetiePie: You know, I never looked into the Orbit and after looking at a magazine last night I was wondering if I should have looked at the Orbit and Stokke! But now that I have the Cruz and Vista (and someone has bought us the G-Luxe...) I have no regrets.

@spaniellove: that's what I'm thinking too. And maybe I'm naive but I don't know that if be carrying the car seat for super long distances anyway. That's what I'll have the stroller base for! And my husband ;-)
In my mind heavy means sturdy and well built. It just LOOKS safe and cozy.
Although now I have 2 friends who swear by the Orbit travel system. Did you look into that at all? It swivels 360 so you can easily move baby front to back facing and can even face you while you're taking him/her out of the car - no weird angle.

@SweetiePie: After all that back and forth we decided to stick with the Mesa. We thought we were going to get the Chicco Keyfit with the nicer canopy but I hated that canopy. Then I got the Cybex Aton 2 and thought it felt wobbly and just not as nice. Despite the weight we just thought nothing came close to the Mesa in terms of quality!

@jill_a55: Seriously...my LO has taken a number of naps in her car seat (in our house!) after driving her around was the only thing that got her to nap. You'll be glad you have it when that happens to you! Plus I only ever really carry it from the house to the car or the car to the stroller. Whenever DH is with us (which is most of the time) he carries it.

@LovelyPlum: haha seriously. We've still go a few months to go back and forth I guess! I'm going to register for it, I think it would take one wake up of a sleepy baby in a carseat to flip my opinion if I went straight to convertible.

@jill_a55: fair :) I was that way at first, then I got swayed to try the infant seat, then I went in to start our registry. Now I am firmly back in camp convertible carseat. Watch the baby get here and me make DH go get an infant seat ;)

@lawbee11: thanks! It's so nice to hear reviews from people who actually have them. If we go the infant seat route, I think we'll go Maxi Cosi. Honestly, though, I might just be anti-infant seat ;)

@spaniellove: It fits so well in our car, too! Maybe I'm making my life harder without the infant seat, but I just don't know if I can do it. We'll see if that changes between now and April, though ;)

@LovelyPlum: @jill_a55: I know this is totally unsolicited, but I have the Maxi Cosi + Cruz and I love, love it! I originally wanted the Mesa but it wasn't going to be out in time. It's way heavier than the Mico, though, and I am so glad I went with the Mico because my LO is only 4 months old & 14 lbs and that thing is hella heavy! And my LO is 46% in weight so not even some huge baby.

@jill_a55: @spaniellove: so after spending 2 hours at BBB, I've come to the conclusion that I hate infant seats. I think we're going directly to the convertible, and I'm looking at the Peg. I just can't do the heavy seats.

Just wanted to update, I stopped at BBB today and had a chance to check out the car seats! It turns out I like the Mesa best despite its weight - the canopy is sturdier and I like the material better. The canopy on the Mico seemed inconvenient and because the bottom edge isn't attached, it was in the way a lot.

And after going through all the convertible seats I think we're going to try the Peg Perego for DH's car!

@jill_a55: @LovelyPlum: I think the Cruz and Vista use different adapters, but there is a Cruz/Maxi Cosi adapter!

One thing holding me back from getting the seat with the lower height/weight limit is that I want to hold off as long as possible on getting a convertible seat for my car, since DH's car doesn't fit an infant seat and we have to get a Combi Coccoro for his car.

@LovelyPlum: It seems like I'm in that place weekly!! I don't really worry about the longevity of the Maxi Cosi either, we're going to register for the carrier and convertible and hope we get both or can use the completion discount for the convertible. Plus the vista comes with the bassinet and UB has a newborn wrap to make the toddler chairs fit.

The Maxi Cosi uses a similar style of adapters as the UB family, so you just have to click those in to the vista, I imagine it would be the same as the cruz? I like that you don't have to put a strap across the carrier or use one of those larger kits for it!

ETA: The MC felt like I was picking up a cloud compared to the mesa and all the other ones!

@LovelyPlum: Long story...I bought a Vista, then had a change of heart because I thought it was too heavy and got a Cruz, thinking I would sell the Vista. Then I decided I actually needed the Vista too, so I'm keeping both! As you can see I need to think carefully before I decide to get a different car seat. Everything seems heavy to me.

@spaniellove: I was worried about this! I think I'd rather have a lighter bucket seat.

I know that the Maxi Cosi doesn't have a super long life because of weight/height limits, but that doesn't really bug me, I don't think. Part of the reason that I am not worried about the low weight limit of the Maxi Cosi is that I figure we can always switch to a convertible when the time comes. Plus, I'm not sure that it's worth it to spend the extra money on the seat now, when I could put that towards a really awesome convertible (I'm somewhat enamored with the Foonf).

BTW, what stroller are you getting?

@Mrs. Champagne: Bringing a stroller across is similar to bringing a crib, as far as I could tell (I emailed border services before we went to the States to make sure). It's not as hard as bringing across a car seat or walker (ie: impossible) but it's not exactly 100% easy.

I was told that if it meets current safety standards (which the Vista would since the exact same model is sold in Canada) and there are no recalls the border agent usually lets it go across, but that ultimately the decision is up to him/her and they can be really picky about french/english instructions, Canadian distributor address and info, safety marks, etc if they want to be.

In the end I could only find the Vista for $40 cheaper in the USA so I bought I ended up buying it here. Also the 2 year warranty isn't valid in Canada when you buy it in the States so not sure what would happen if something broke down. If you can find it for hundreds of dollars cheaper though I'd probably take the risk and buy it in the US to save the $$!
