@fotolori1 I think it works similarly at my clinic - you get six frozen eggs from your chosen donor from the frozen egg bank, then those are fertilized and grown out to blastocysts. Have a great upcoming appointment! There's so much to learn! One good thing is that frozen cycles are faster as you don't need to wait to sync with the donor while she's doing the suppression then stim then retrieval, etc!

@Momazon: that makes complete sense! We get however many from our chosen donor fertilize. I will know more details after our appointment on Thursday, but I think they take 6 and put them with the sperm, so however many fertilize, they freeze those and store them ( minus the 1 they transfer) I think....

@fotolori1: How many frozen eggs do you get with the frozen donor cycle? One thing to consider is that if you put back two, you're taking away one of your additional chances, if the first one doesn't take. From the stats at my clinic (yours may vary), putting back two doesn't really increase your chances of pregnancy, only dramatically increases your chance of twins. Twin pregnancies are no joke (although many of them are perfectly healthy and uneventful) - I think I'd be extra nervous during the whole pregnancy if I had two in there (especially nervous due to previous losses).

@fotolori1: I don't think of my niece as biologically "my" child. She's just biologically the same as all my family. The same way that my husband is a clone of his father's brother. My sister and I have the same DNA. And my niece is 100% my sister's child anyways - she looks nothing like me and has 100% of my sister's personality. And no one except those on a need-to-know basis know that I was a donor for my sister. No one knows she used donor eggs and very few even know she went through IVF. My niece will never know my sister used donor eggs. No one brings it up except in really certain private conversations. Anyhow, its what worked best for my sister. But I know all families are different so what works best for one wouldn't work at all for another.

@momazon and @winter_wonder: I am so excited for you guys and so hopeful for myself after reading your stories!!! Congratulations! I hope I am joining you very soon!

@Momazon: I think if we did a fresh donor cycle they would offer the guarantee type program, but you have to pay 30,000. We are doing the frozen cycle as it is all we can afford now, it is $18,000 ( we really are struggling to afford that!) But I am hoping they do at least 2 embryos because I am 41, but they say that they will only do 1 because of such high success rates. I am going to talk to them about 2 though. We are prepared for the risk of twins and are ok with that!

@Agold: That is so great that you were a donor for your sister, but is that weird for you to know that her child is "biologically" your child? I don't think I want to use a donor I know or even have seen before. I don't know if it wouldn't affect me emotionally. That about your body resting and using a donor egg makes complete sense!

@fotolori1: I was an egg donor for my sister who had problems with her own eggs. My RE says that using donor eggs is actually the most ideal situation because you get to use fresh embryos while your own body is well resting having not had to be put through the ringer to produce the eggs. I also think that you will contribute so much of yourself to the baby that your body is growing. Best of luck to you!!

@fotolori1: Does your clinic have any sort of shared risk guarantee program for donor eggs, where you can pre-purchase multiple cycles (at reduced per cycle cost)? Or, does your clinic offer sharing of donor eggs (as in one donor for two or three recipients?) We did a shared donor program, and our donor's eggs were split between me and two additional women. It was a more economical way of moving forward, for us, and we still got a great number of quality blastocysts.

@fotolori1: Yes! I used donor eggs, after 3 failed IUIs and 6 fresh and 1 frozen own egg IVF cycles (resulting in 3 BFPs but all lost around six weeks). Currently 16 weeks pregnant from our first donor egg cycle (we transferred one embryo and have three frozen for future tries), and we're so happy! :). Feel free to ask any questions at all, I'll be back online later! Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Hello! Yes, we used donor eggs. I had stage 4 endometriosis which destroyed 1 Fallopian tube and damaged one of my ovaries. We tried 2 cycles of IVF with my eggs- cycle 1, we only got 1 egg and never made it to transfer and cycle 2 we also got 1 egg, made it to transfer but didn't stick. After that, we consulted with a new RE who told us that we could try another cycle with my eggs but would probably get the same results. We were lucky enough to have insurance cover 4 cycles and by that point our goal was to have a healthy baby. I didn't want to go through another cycle only to have the same result. So we decided to use donor eggs. It was not an easy decision and I went through a bit of a mourning period- I wasn't expecting that. But I wanted to experience pregnancy and childbirth and that, in the end, was more important to me than genetics. We were able to look through profiles and baby pictures of donors and chose one we were comfortable with- it was all anonymous. Also, insurance only covered the IVF part of the cycle, not the cost of the donor eggs and payment to the donor- so our out of pocket portion was around $15,000 I believe. Our RE was so confident in the quality of the embryo, that he only transferred 1, and now, 2 years later, we have a beautiful 15 month old girl. It was the best decision we have ever made. Good luck and please feel free to ask me any other questions!

That is so awesome to hear! I think I have come to terms with it not being my egg, but I think at this point I am more excited about it! This has been a long and exhausting journey and I am so over it! I feel like I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

How many embryos did you transfer? The clinic we are using only does one, but I would like to at least do 2. They
say with such high success rates, they don't transfer more than 1.

We did donor eggs and I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant on our first try!

I think it's amazing, I am so so so grateful to our donor! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to discuss further!

My husband and I have tried everything.... laparoscopy, 2 hsg's, and 8 IUI's, because I am older (41, been trying for 3 years) we are having to go to IVF... however, the dr advised us that with my eggs (I have DOR) we only have a 10% chance of success, but with a donor egg we have about a 70% chance of success. Because our insurance covers nothing and we have to pay about $18,000 out of pocket, we are opting for the one with the highest success rate, so we are going with the donor egg. Has anyone else done this? Was it successful on the first try? How do you feel about it?
