When we were kids, my mom did the pull over thing and she would have an overly dramatic freak out "oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! How did you get that undone?! You can't do that! You'll get hurt really badly! That's so awful, don't do it again!" And she says it worked...

Is she able to undo buttons? You could try the "button down shirt trick". You put her in the car seat with a button down shirt on (unbuttoned), strap her all in, then button the shirt over the straps. Might be worth a shot!

Adding anything to the chest clip is considered unsafe, although so is laying half way out of the seat, so if you decide to go that route I think it's kinda a "pick your battles" kind of thing.

I'm going to look into the Britax seat, I need to buy a new one for each of them anyways :meh:
Bribery isn't working with her, nothing is working! I have been avoiding taking her when I can lately.

I believe britax has a kit to make it harder for kids to unbuckle the top themselves. If you have one of their seats maybe give them a call or try whoever made your seat.

You could also try using one of those strap covers that velcros closed and putting it over the buckle after you strap her in. The noise might alert you to it so you can address it immediately as opposed to later.

I have had some success too with pulling the car over as soon as a kid unbuckles and refusing to move until they buckle again. Obviously for this to work you need to be in a place where it's safe for you to do so but it might be worth a try.

Ugh, yes. This is our huge battle right now. No matter how tight I pull the straps, she frees her arms. One site suggested raising the place where the arm straps are on the seat, and said that LO's can free their arms when the straps are too low for a LO's height. We just adjusted the height of the strap opening (not sure what it's technically called!) this weekend, so I don't know if if will make a difference yet. There are also devices on amazon that claim to help, but reviews are mixed so I haven't tried those yet.

Bribery has worked for us. If LO is allowed a very high value item like either YouTube videos on my phone or gummies or similar, she will leave her arms in (I tell her I will take away the treat immediately if she takes her arms out). This isn't the greatest solution since I don't want to give her a treat every time we drive somewhere, so in still looking for a long term solution. :bummed:

It's so frustrating because she knows she is suppose to have her straps on and laughs when she takes them off! Arg!

Not yet, so I don't have any advice, but my daughter (only 18 months) is days away from figuring out how to latch and unlatch the top buckle and it's freaking me out!

My daughter will be 3 next month and just recently started getting out of the top half of her buckles (arms) which frees her to lay sideways reach the button for the window etc.. I've tried tightening down really tight but she still wriggles out somehow.
Anyone else? How did you get them to stop?
