@shutterbug: That's good to know! My LP is pretty good, but I have had this strange midcycle spotting about a week before AF a few months after we started ttc. At first my doc thought it was low Progesterone, but my current doc - after she checked my thyroid - said it could be related to that since my Progesterone levels were good. I didn't know hypothyroid could lead to spotting, but hopefully that's the explanation, at least for me!

@mrs.halfsie: hi :) I have a fairly short LP, and I also have spotting before my period usually. I don't know if it's related to the thyroid, but I have noticed that my LP has lengthened from about 8-9 days unmedicated to 10-11 days on thyroid meds. I still spot the day before, though.

Hello there! I realize this post is ancient, but I just had some questions if any of you are still around :)

Did any of you encounter spotting the week before your period? Did that ever stop when you got put on meds? If you were able to get pregnant, did the bleeding still occur that cycle or did nothing happen?

Thanks - I'm a hypothyroid newbie so any info is appreciated!

I realized something was wrong about 6 months after my first baby was born. I was more exhausted than when he was a newborn and the weight I had been losing was coming back. I also just felt pretty down. Anyway I turned out to have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Once I got on medication and monitoring it turned into mostly a non-issue! Of course I had extra monitoring during my second pregnancy but no complications whatsoever.

@lovelife: I also had all of those symptoms and was diagnosed as hypothyroid. My thyroid issue was also affecting my luteal phase progesterone levels which resulted in recurrent miscarriages. After I was diagnosed and put on thyroid medication (combined with cutting out gluten) my progesterone levels went up and I was able to carry my pregnancy to full term. It never hurts to have it checked!

I have half a thyroid due to a partial thyroidectomy about 4 years ago. I had a large nodule that repeated biopsies could not definitively diagnose as cancerous or not, so my doctor advised me to just be safe an remove it. I have been fortunate that my levels, which I check every 3 months, have never had any issues. It's amazing how the body is so smart that it can compensate for what it's missing and still function normally. So while I haven't had problems yet, I fully expect to at some point. And it's something that I will always have to deal with for the rest of my life. Being pregnant, I have had to get my TSH done every 6 weeks and fortunately they've been fine. Thyroids are a pain in the *ss!

@lovelife: it never hurts to ask! Definitely get it checked out!

My mom suffered for years trying to find out what was wrong with her and when her thyroid was finally diagnosed she felt so much better. Her doc told her to have me tested bc it's hereditary (we have Grave's disease)...and I put it off for years bc I told her I was fine and I was just stressed from law school (my symptoms for being severely hyperthyroid were never ending hunger, heart palpitations, insomnia, constantly hot, fast heart rate, exhaustion, and just feeling super anxious/stressed)...when I finally got diagnosed and the medication kicked in...well, it was like I finally realized what it felt like to feel "normal" again. It was a huge relief. I feel like it's similar to when you find out you need glasses...you are used to seeing the world kind of blurry and when you finally get glassss/contacts the world just looks so amazing and different and you can't believe you went so long with blurry/dulled vision.

I hope you feel better! Also, another huge thing that made me feel so much better was cutting out caffeine

@T-Mom: @Shutterbug: @travelingbrit: @Sammyfab: Thanks for your replies! I just hate to ask/get tested and pay for something that isn't the problem. @travelingbrit: I sleep 10ish hours a night and I still struggle to get up, and am tired all day long. I've cut about 75% of gluten out of my diet within the last two months but not feeling a difference.

I have hypothryroidism as well and the main symptom I experienced was constant fatigue. I'm guessing that at that time my diet played a role in the fatigue as well. I would definitely go get checked!

I have severe hypothyroid and I had all of those symptoms minus the cramps.
It's a simple blood test for diagnosis and can be controlled by meds, so get you levels checked!

Get checked! Those symptoms sound a lot like my hypothyroidism. I'm on daily meds now and I cut out gluten and I feel SO much better. There was a time when I slept a solid 10-12 hours a day and STILL had no energy. It was awful.

I didn't have symptoms, but as part of routine fertility blood work (CD 3) my TSH, thyroid stimulating hormone level was high, which means hypothyroidism. I got it tested again last weekend and it was high again, so I'm going on meds soon. All of the symptoms you mentioned sound like hypothyroid - I'd get it checked.

I don't have thyroid problems, but your symptoms sound just like the ones my FSIL has, and she has thyroid problems. She is on medication, but has also made some changed to her diet such as cutting out gluten. Hope you are able to get some answers!

What were your symptoms that lead you to believe you might have a thyroid problem? I've been told quite a few times to get it checked but never have. I'm considering asking my Dr. when I go in for my annual appointment next month.

Here are some of my symptoms..
-always tired, no energy
- irregular/slow metabolism
-dry skin
- I go to bed at 10:00 and struggle to get out of bed by 8. (I always blamed this on "not being a morning person" but I think its more)
-Always have chapped lips.
-Severe menstrual cramps

Just looking for some input.
