We've been here for about 5 days and are loving it so far. We definitely have a lot to figure out in the next few weeks. I'm feeling overwhelmed with the to do list but im breaking it down one task at a time.</p> <p>I would love to know if any of your austin moms have a good pediatrician recommendation. Currently we are living in a temp apt near my husbands work but are considering the allandale-ish area for a house. So I guess something relatively close?</p> <p>Thanks everything! Due with my first baby in a month. We live just North of Mueller in a cute neighborhood called Windsor Park. We love living on the east side. Welcome to TX! It is indeed a bit of culture shock - I moved here in 2006 after living on the east coast my entire life. But Austin is the best place to get acclimated - it's a great city and I can't imagine living elsewhere now (at least for the time being!) </p> <p>@ABBYDABBYDOODLEBUG: Your message made me LOL. We have been living in an urban environment where we mostly walk to shops and restaurants now, so this will be a little bit of an adjustment. We are from Texas originally and are excited to get back.</p> <p>We will probably rent for a while until we get a better feel of where we want to live. It's a good time to come to Austin. Summers are pretty uncomfortably hot, but this is the time when people actually start emerging from indoors to do fun outdoor things (like movies in the park). I'm south of Austin in Buda but I used to work/live in North Austin for about 8 years. CP, Leander, are so kid friendly. My advice would be to move as close to your husband's job as you can because the biggest problem with Austin is TRAFFIC. If there's an accident, forget it. </p> <p>I'm originally from upstate NY, and was in total culture shock moving to Texas. In a good way. Just be aware that everyone is super friendly, even the cashiers! That really weirded me out when I first moved here. We live in Mueller, a neighborhood on the east side of town that's the most walkable I could find (after many hours spent googling "Park Slope of Austin" haha). It's very family-friendly, with a great children's museum (The Thinkery) in walking distance and close to downtown. LO is currently at a Bright Horizons in Manhattan, so to make things easy, we are just transferring him to an Austin branch until we figure out where we are gonna live. Then, I figured I'd look for a closer place if we aren't happy with the local BH or if the commute isn't ideal.</p> <p>He's 15.5 months now. How old is your LO or LOs? I had my son in June 2015 and I've been living in Brooklyn. </p> <p>In two weeks, we are moving to Austin, TX and i have literally never been there and know no one who lives there (some friends of friends, but no one I really know well). It's gonna be a big adventure and Im totally ready for it. I'll be working from home with the same job I've had in NYC and we'll be living north of downtown so we stay close-ish to my husband's job. Our son will be going to daycare.</p> <p>I was wondering if any Austin moms have any advice for me as a Texas newbie (Im from the SF Bay Area originally but I've been a new yorker for 14 years), or any ideas for fun stuff to do with the little guy.</p> <p>Thanks! </p>
