Yes to Chatham and yes to Nantucket, and definitely the week after Labor Day! I also have never really liked Hyannis.

@hellobeeboston: Oo, I'm not opposed to Nantucket either! Initially just thought we'd ferry it over for a day trip but totally open to actaully staying too

@BUNBUN: Thank you!! I appreciate your perspective SO much. And no worries on the weather; we're all NE people so we totally get the fickle weather haha!

I lived on Cape Cod for 7 years. I lived in Falmouth and worked (grad school) in Woods Hole. As a resident, my experience was a little different from a tourist, but FWIW, here are my 2 cents.
Definitely go after Labor Day - the weather is just as warm and the crowds are somewhat smaller.
Provincetown is probably the most fun because of the night life but the water is frigid - the beach is gorgeous, but the water is cold. Yes, it's a longer drive, but once you're there, its easy to walk most places.
My second choice for a bachelorette would be Martha's Vineyard: it's very bikeable and the public busses are awesome. There are multiple ferries to MV: Hyannis, Falmouth, Woods Hole and Rhode Island. The Woods Hole and Hyannis ferries are the "main" ferries: Steamship Authority. (FYI: the Woods Hole ferry parking is in Falmouth and there is a shuttle)
Falmouth is a fun little town with enough variety that you shouldn't get bored, and probably several live music options on the weekend between Falmouth and Woods Hole. The beaches are nice and on the Buzzards Bay side the water is always a little warmer. I find it easier to drive around Falmouth than many of the "resort" towns because it has more streets and is more of a year-round town. You can also do a day trip to MV from Woods Hole.

Be forewarned: fog and chilly weather is the norm, but it's often very patchy. Sometimes it was sunny at my house, foggy at the beach in Falmouth, and sunny at the beach in Woods Hole -- at the same time. Also, you'll need a beach pass to park at most beaches. If you do an Airbnb, it's worth asking if they have a beach pass for guests.

FUN! Just chiming in to say it will be much easier and probably cheaper to go in September! The weather should still be good, and the traffic won't be so bananas.

We went to Nantucket labor day week/first week of September 2 years ago and the place we rented was basically half the price as august, and it was much quieter!

Nantucket would be a good spot to stay, stay near town and super easy to get around! Chatham is also gorgeous!

@graceandjoy: yes, we have never taken cars to MV. We either rent bikes or take the big huge vans that are everywhere! We did a hotel in MV because somehow one of the girls knew someone so we got a good rate - they were townhouse-ish style so we could sleep a lot of people. In South Yarmouth we are staying at "Blue on the Ocean" - normal rooms but there are only 8 of us so 3 rooms works!

I'm chiming in to also suggest Martha's Vineyard as a great bachelorette location! We stayed in a decent hotel that and then took the cheap vans all around to the beaches (South Beach is our fave!) and there was plenty of nightlife in Oak Bluffs.

I'm going to another bachelorette and we are staying in South Yarmouth right on the beach and will go out in Hyannis, maybe over to the winery (we have a few pregnant DDs in the group thankfully) or possibly take the ferry over for a day trip.

Let me know if you want specifics on hotels, bars, etc.!

My family has a house in Falmouth, I would suggest checking that town out. It’s nice because you get away from the Rt 6 traffic. There’s a nice downtown area with restaurants and bars, a great bike path to Woods Hole which has more restaurants and shops and the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. Lots of beaches on the ocean side and Buzzards Bay side (which are always warmer).

@skiierchck99: Thank you so much! We are no spring chickens so I think Chatham actually sounds better than P-town. I think bride is more into the classy/quaint vs partying. I'm gonna pin all the places you mentioned! I wish I had visited this area when I lived in Boston!

@graceandjoy: I have spent a good amount of time on the Cape and islands . Depending on the feel of the group, I would pick P-town if I wanted a more partying crowd, or Chatham if I wanted more relaxing/quaint. I'd consider going to Truro vineyards during the day either way if the weather is nice, though it's farther from Chatham. I don't have specific recommendations in P-town (unless you're doing a whale watch, ha!), but in Chatham someone mentioned the Squire, but I would also recommend the Chatham Bars Inn for a view and a drink or dinner, or even the Wequasset for the same not too far away. Both have fun shopping, beach walks, etc.. If you head to Wellfleet, you can also visit the Beachcomber. It's in the middle of nowhere on a beach, but it's a nice base in the day if you want to hang on the beach and come up for lunch and bar. They do live music at night too though it isn't my scene.

Generally, there are limited cabs and basically no Uber so you need a dd or to book a shuttle in advance. I don't think the traffic factor would stop me from heading to P-town if I wanted more of a party scene. Also, if you want, you can take a (somewhat pricey) ferry over to P-town from Boston.

I would not pick Hyannis - just me. I've never been to Falmouth other than to get on the ferry, but people do, and it's then a day trip to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.

PM me if you have more questions about anything I said!

My best friend growing up had a house in Chatham. Most people hang out at the Squire for food/ drinks. You could also try a Chatham A's baseball game.

@graceandjoy: if you can wait until after labor day it quiets down some but the restaurants and shops are still open, much later then the first/second weekend in October and just about everything closes. Once you get past midcape there is only 1 main road and in several places it's only 1 lane in each direction.

@graceandjoy: yeah traffic is bad. Chatham is nice, a little more uppity and fancy. I'm not sure about nightlife, we had kids and we're home by 7 🙄 I wasn't impressed with Hyannis, it was kinda cheesy and didn't offer that much.

Cape Cod is generally very laid-back and you have to drive most places. to me it feels like a place a family would rent a big house and just hang out and grill all week. (We've been 4 times and BIL lives in Boston so he's there a lot.)
P town is probably your best bet. Truro is extremely quiet and isolated though

Provincetown would have the most to offer for night life. Lots of drag shows! But other entertainment as well, plus fun shops and a bunch of great restaurants. Truro and Provincetown are pretty close to each other so if it were me I'd probably do the Truro winery by day and Provincetown at night.

I’d say Provincetown too! Yes, it’s geared toward LGBTQ travelers but it’s so fun and has the most nightlife of anywhere I’ve been on the Cape. And it’s so pretty. You could also look at Chatham which is a bit more built up than the rest of the Outer Cape.

My grandfather lives on the Cape and we visit every year so I know some things but have never been as part of a bachelorette party. Provincetown has night life, including drag shows, beaches and restaurants. Hyannis is the big town (mall, chain restaurants) most of the other cape towns are smaller and can feel like a bit of a throw back, Wellfleet still has a drive in movie theater. The Truro winery is pretty good. The many the beaches on the ocean side on the upper cape are part of the national park system (Cape Cod National Seashore) and thus have parking fees and possibly entrance fees (we tend to avoid or use my grandfather's residence pass so I don' t know costs)

@graceandjoy: I wouldn't say I know it super well, but I've been a couple of times. I LOVED Provincetown. It's known as an LGBTQ friendly destination, but of course anyone is welcome. We went with our kids. There are good restaurants and wine bars, and the beach. And it's just beautiful.
