I don't mind, but the tickets are so expensive now. We'll be spending Christmas with my parents in LA!

We lived far away and had to travel for years for holidays. We are about to move again and won't have to fly on holidays anymore and I'm excited about that! But I loved flying home to celebrate. Especially when we lived in Chicago - being in the airport at Christmas always reminded me of Home Alone. Plus, I always loved how cheerful everyone was when they were going home for the holidays.

The only issue I ever had was going back after the holiday during the time we were living in a place I didn't love living in! But that won't be an issue anymore since we are leaving here soon!!!

@Alivoo01: that's not corny! We don't get to go a lot of places. We take a vacation to the beach and to the mountains every year but nothing exotic. Going to my parents' house is definitely an opportunity for us to practice travel skills!

@Anagram: I am the same way! I actually get to cook on thanksgiving because my parents want to watch LO and DH is around to help. I love that aspect of it!

I used to love it, but it's harder now. I really don't like traveling on the actual holiday, which means we usually stay home for Christmas and have our families over.

I love spending time with my family over the holidays! Granted, there are years where I am done with them after a day or two, but such is life! :silly: It's harder with my in-laws, though. They are relatively recently divorced and each really want us to be with them on the day of. It is a system we're still trying to work out.

@yoursilverlining: I've never flown on Christmas, but we do drive 4 hours or so on Christmas Day every year, and it's really nice! There is no one on the roads!

I don’t mind traveling on the holidays; DH’s parents are divorced and (until very recently) lived on the opposite coast from us, so we always had to travel, so I’ve just gotten used to it. Last year we flew ON Christmas and it was actually really, really nice. No huge crowds, everyone was chiller than usual and in better moods than usual and the plane wasn’t 100% jam packed full. We aren’t religious, so it doesn’t really matter if we celebrate Christmas a day early or late or whatever, and LO is still too young to notice if it’s off a day or two.

I don't mind any of it as long as things go smoothly. I love visiting my parents for Christmas. A lot of the time though we run into bad weather, delays, overbooked flights, etc., and then I can't say I like it much!

LOL I wouldn't say I like the travel aspect of it. But I certainly don't mind it because it's important for us to spend holidays with our family. And my family lives 6-7 hours away so we go once during the holiday season. But like you the main reason is for our niece and nephews!

No, it's a hassle. I really like that we do CHristmas in our house, then drive 30 min to do a big Christmas with DH's family. I don't like traveling as in...staying somewhere else.

I like being with family for the holidays. I hate actually travelling around the holidays- if you drive there is so much traffic and you have to plan around peak traffic times and now nap times; If you fly it cost a zillion dollars, plains are packed, airports are full of people who fly a couple of times a year and don't know the ins and outs of security, not to mention all the families (haha, us, now) who take longer... BUT it's worth it because I do love spending time with family over the holidays so I try to stop being grumpy about it by the time we land. :)

I do really want to eventually wake up for some holiday in my own home with my baby, but I don't know when it will happen since my family is a 4-5 hour drive (without traffic) and the ILs are mostly across the country.

We do but I don't know about this year. Last year we didn't enjoy traveling for Christmas. LO and DH were really sick. My parents had moved so it wasn't my childhood home.

We decided we will so a trip in the summer since we can stay longer for the same cost. We invited my folks here for Christmas but they declined. So not sure what we will do.

It's kind of exhausting now that we have a dog and a LO. My inlaws live five hours away and the dog gets carsick, so we have to make a lot of stops just to make sure she's okay.

The actual traveling part is always semi-stressful because our baby isn't the best traveler, but once we are there I always enjoy it! I love seeing our families and getting a break from LO duties because everyone else fights over who gets to feed/play with/put her to sleep.

I can't say I love the travelling part, but it's definitely worth it to me to spend the holidays with loved ones! We'll be travelling to my parents for Thanksgiving this year, but will be on our own for Christmas because I'll be 7 months pregnant and just would rather play it safe at that point. But I am SOOOO excited for Thanksgiving!!

I actually don't mind it. It's how it is, in our family. We'll never be able to have everyone all together because of geography, so I make the best of it.

My parents are divorced so holidays have always included travel for me. Nowadays I like the bustle of holiday travel and I like being in my family's homes at the holidays because it reminds me of my childhood. We do have Christmas morning at home so we are starting to build up a tradition with that, but we did just move so it feels a bit like we are starting from scratch again! My mom still has two kids at home and one in college so I suppose that accounts somewhat for why I enjoy being there for the holidays.
