My Dr. stopped measuring me. He said I'm big & gonna get huge. Last measurement I was 3 weeks ahead. U/S tech has commented every time since I was 15 weeks how big my babies are. They are already measuring 4# & 3.5# at 29 weeks. Average is 2.5 pounds...

Now a story that wont freak you out. One of my friends measured a month ahead and had 7 pound something baby that delivered on time.

I measured ahead from the time they started measuring. my midwife never told me numbers though so I'm not sure how much ahead. I had LO 40+1 and he was 8.5 lbs.

my midwife was never concerned or even sure it was going to be a big baby. she said I could have lots of fluid or the baby could just be not as curled up as some.

I measured about two weeks ahead the whole time. DS was born 13 days early and weighed 9lbs 5oz. My doc said I would have a big baby.

Funny thing was I had an ultrasound about half a week before going into labour and they said he would be 7 something. They were a bit off.

I measured ahead for the majority of both of my pregnancies.
With DS the doc said he was going to be about 8 1/2-9lbs. I was 6 days late and he was 7lbs 12oz
With DD the doc said she was going to be around 8lbs. She was 6 days early and 7lbs 5oz

I consistently measured 3 weeks ahead and the they were worried that the baby was going to be huge. My dr talked me into a C-section because of the size of the baby. He was delivered at 40 weeks and was 9lb4oz. Not as big as they predicted!

@Lindsay05: I consistently measured 1-2 weeks ahead. Atone appointment I was 4 weeks ahead.
I was so scared of going early and having a huge baby.
Instead I was 5 days late and had a pretty average baby - 7 lbs 15 oz.
My OB said I had extra fluid (but not enough to be a concern).

When I was 28w I measured 4 weeks ahead! I was totally freaked out I was going to have a huge baby! By 36w I measured right on track and at 40w gave birth to a 7 pounder! So not a big baby at all!

@chopsuey: Yeah I gain lots with my pregnancies too. Food is definitely my feel-good through morning sickness.

@Mamasig: omg! Yep that is very big!

@MamaBehr: DD was 8lbs 6oz. So a fair size. My brother was 10 lbs and DH's brother was over 10lbs so it might be in the genes to have a bigger baby :(

@Lindsay05: We are having the same pregnancy! I have been measuring 2-3 weeks ahead since they started measuring, but this isn't a surprise to me. My kids do come out big. DD was 40 weeks 6 days and 9lbs 6oz and 22 inches. DS was 37 weeks 1 day and 7lbs 13 oz. My husband keeps joking that this baby will be over 10lbs. I keep telling him, that for all parties involved, he better hope he is wrong.

That being said, my neighbor measured big with both of her girls and they were in the 6lb range. She apparently had a LOT of amniotic fluid.

How big was your first?

At around 34 weeks my doctor mentioned I was measuring big and ordered an ultrasound to check weight at my next visit (36 weeks). I'm only 5'2" with a small frame so she wanted to have an idea of how big he was. I didn't end up getting the ultrasound until 37 weeks - he was measuring 9 lbs 3 oz at that point. Two weeks later, I had a c-section and he was 10 lbs 9 oz. So in my case measuring big definitely meant a big baby!

My MWs said it's really just an estimate and as long as it's not off by more than 2-3cm consistently, they don't really pay attention to it. I've been measuring about 1-1.5cm small since they started taking my fundal height, but baby has always been a couple days ahead on ultrasound measurements. If your doctor doesn't think there's cause for concern, I wouldn't sweat it!

I measured ahead. DD was pretty average: 8 lbs 4 oz (at 15 days overdue). Are you tall? I'm 5'10" and my midwife said a lot of tall women measure ahead merely by way of having a longer torso and therefore more room for baby to spread out.

@Lindsay05: my one baby was the size of most twins! If you're only measuring two weeks ahead it shouldn't be too bad. I was measuring seven. If babies gain half a pound per week and an average baby weighs seven you're looking at eight pounds. Big, but not crazy big, healthy cute chubby baby big. DD was one gram shy of a mandatory nicu stay.

@Lindsay05: one of my cousins measured ahead her whole pregnancy and later in the pregnancy they discovered it was because she had a really excessive amount of amniotic fluid. Poor thing got asked her whole pregnancy if she was having twins. She handled it well until the very end when someone at the hospital asked her while she was in labor if it was twins and she just yelled "NO! And F YOU!!". Hahaha... She reached her breaking point!! Baby was average size at 8lbs and totally healthy. Mama did have her ab muscles separate which was a bummer, but that happens sometimes even without unusual circumstances.

Anyone's fundal height (the length of the uterus) measure bigger? I have consistently been measuring about 2 weeks ahead. My doctor pretty much said it will be a bigger baby and is not concerned about it at all.

So if you measured big, did you have a bigger baby? Or the opposite?
