One poster turned out to be a neighbor who lives 3 blocks away from me, and is now one of my very best friends. Another poster who happened to live in my city became my mentor in photography, and we still keep in touch and she just did my newborn photos for my second child. Then I also met a group of 4 women who are not local and the 5 of us became good friends and I talk to them in a group chat literally every day on facebook-- that we have kept going for the past 7 years. It was SO a wonderful to meet those ladies in real life and we stay in contact off of HB. One of them even introduced me to a woman who was living near me, and she and I became good friends. I also email fairly regularly with a very sweet lady who isn’t around much anymore, but we can really confide in one another. I also follow a number of Bees on IG and I love knowing more about people and watching their little families grow. I started chatting in a forum for a musician i loved in the early 2000s - moved the conversation to email with 5 people and we still communicate (though much more sporadically now, sadly). We are from all over the world and some of us have met, some of us not. I feel very lucky that I had them in my life at that time (fresh out of university, unsure of where life was headed) even though our communication was almost entirely virtual. </p> <p>I'm not super active on HB so haven't interacted with anyone outside the boards. I never connected as much to the moms in the due date group for DS2, but I think it was really because I was still so close to the '14 gals and many of them were having second or third or fourth kids around the same time.</p> <p>I text with @sweetiepie: all the time and I chat over other messaging platforms with 2 other moms semi regularly just on day to day gripe stuff about our threenagers. There are five of us - we all met through a posting board in the late 90s, have moved to email, and have talked almost every day for about 18 years. We've met twice in person in the last three years (once for dinner when I was near her, once for lunch when she was near me). </p> <p>But we maintain regular email contact and I consider her a pretty close friend! Some might argue we aren't that close since we're rarely physically there for each other, but she's one of the first people I share big news with. </p> <p>I do think there's a difference with being friends only though a message board or similar platform vs. being friends who keep up with each other regularly one on one. </p>
