Instead, EVERY year we make each other a handmade card (usually with construction paper and cutouts of photos from the previous year, sometimes a drawing or some graphics from magazines) and a heartfelt message. Same for birthdays and Valentine's Day. DH and my birthdays are in the same week, so instead of gifts we sgo somewhere/do something together for our birthdays. More of an experience over a gift you can open.
