I gained 40lbs with my first and 10 with my second. Second baby was just shy of 9lbs, so I left the hospital weighing less than Pre-baby weight. I ate right, worked out and indulged regularly on ice cream!

With my last pregnancy I didn't seem to gain any until the very end. It all came in my 3rd trimester I think maybe 25lbs total, and 9 lbs of which were baby. Within ONE week post baby I was 5 lbs from my starting weight.

I am at 27 weeks now and only up 3lbs.

I gained 22lbs out of the 40 they recommended both pregnancies. My first baby was just under 7lbs at 38 weeks and my second was just over 6lbs induced at 38 weeks. Both perfectly healthy. I don't work out and just eat in moderation. Your body knows what it needs to do. This time I didn't gain anything the last month. Doc was never concerned.

I gained about 22 lbs by the time I delivered, although it fluctuated a bit in the weeks before. Almost all of that was in the second trimester. I gained zero in the first trimester and maybe 6-7 in the third. My doctor was super happy with my weight. My daughter was 8 lbs 1 ounce. I lost all of it by 2 weeks PP.

@Goldengirl: I think I gained 25 or a bit less last time but it picked up a bit at the end, in the last month, both times. I'm pretty sure I was under 20 lbs gained at 32 weeks. I know you're under that even but my lo was 8lb2oz, so I think you'll be ok.

At 34 weeks when the twins were born, I gained 15 lbs compared to my pre-pregnancy weight. I did have HG at around 5-6 weeks and was in the hospital at 8 and 12 weeks and each stay was 3-5 days so that they could tweak my medications.

It wasn't until I was 24 weeks that I stopped anti nausea medications.

I am petite (5'2 abd 130lbs pre-pregnancy) and my babies were 3#11 and 4#3 at birth. They were 6 weeks early.

When I was told I should gain 20 lbs by 20 weeks, I was at 5 lbs at 20 weeks. I was really concerned but my dr said the babies were growing so she wasn't. Babies were healthy so luckily my lack of weight gain didn't harm them.

@Goldengirl: I did not gain a lot, 20 lbs total and started out pretty thin. I ran from the day of conception til the day he was born. My OB told me,so maybe eat a little more but I didn't really. I am a believer in babies taking what they need from you to grow, and to trust your body, and theirs to allocate food and energy correctly!

@Goldengirl: my belly always measured right on target, too, and when I asked my doc about lack of weight gain, she always cited the measurements and said it was fine. Sounds like you're doing great, but I totally relate to the worry!

I had GD. I gained 8lb in the first tri, but lost it all in the 2nd tri, after my positive GD test. I weighed the same at 37 weeks as I did pre pregnancy, and was almost a stone lighter when I came home from hospital! My baby was very healthy and weighed 7lb 2.

@goldengirl: when I met with the NP for this current pregnancy, she tried to tell me that I should gain 30lbs...this despite us JUST talking about how little I gained during the first 2 pregnancies/what I ate/etc. I was so annoyed, since clearly I had gained ~half that much twice already, not for lack of "trying".... DH and I just had a good laugh about it at home that night!

Is the baby measuring normally? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. I barely gained 10 lbs during my pregnancy. I was/am overweight to begin with, and had zero appetite during pregnancy (the only side effect I actually miss LOL) so no one gave it any pause. Ironically my lowest weight was right after I gave birth. That said, I did have IUGR, which no one figured out until after I gave birth, and my daughter was measuring small through the entire pregnancy (which was written off by my OB as much me being short). Once she stopped gaining weight, that's where they got concerned, but as long as she grew normally, even if slower than average, they weren't worried about her nor my weight.

@Goldengirl: I'm glad they are monitoring you, I'm sure you are fine. With my LO I gained 20 lbs pretty quickly and then stopped gaining weight. I ended up having him at 34w for unexplained reasons and I always wonder if I wasn't gaining enough weight to keep him growing. I don't mean this to scare you, I just am glad they are paying attention! (I've switched practices for this pregnancy, so we'll see what happens!) If you are feeling good, eating well and the baby is growing, don't worry!

Thanks everyone for sharing! It's helpful to hear from those who had very little weight gain. If I could gain 20 by the end I'd be really happy but I'd say I'm not on track to gain even that much. Just got a bit freaked out today at my prenatal appointment when the nurses looked super concerned when I got on the scale and started asking me all these questions about if I'm eating and if I've been sick. I eat whatever I want, when I want... always have! I've always been on the thinner side. I just get nervous when I'm told that 25-30 is the recommended amount and I'm no where near that. I'll try to up my calorie intake a bit more and see if that helps. Just want to make sure baby is healthy and growing, not really concerned at all about myself!

I only gained about 20 lbs more than my pre-preg weight with my first, and that was with barely any excercise and eating lots of dessert, lol. Lo was small (5 lbs 13 oz) but also born at 37 weeks. And lost during the first 20 weeks. This pregnancy I'm 21 weeks and haven't gained more than about 5ish lbs yet

I am hovering right around 24 lbs and holding at 35 weeks. For my previous pregnancies, I gained quite a bit more (35-40 lbs each). The first two babies were small (around 5.5 lbs), and this one is tracking to be a similar size or possibly a little smaller. I am petite and started all pregnancies around a similar weight - possibly 3 lbs heavier for this one.

For me, I think it's just about lifestyle. I had household help for my first two pregnancies, and took busses/taxis most places. This time we've moved and I walk everywhere, it's a farther distance to lug groceries etc., and I don't have help, so my kids are with me (getting pushed in a double stroller) a lot of the time. Without the help I had before, I also eat at home much more frequently (as opposed to indulgent restaurant dinners), so I think the "opportunities" for me to gain weight, perhaps more than I needed to in previous pregnancies, were limited this time around.

I only gained 15lbs with each of my two babies that I had only 14 months apart. I ate whenever I was hungry and not all healthy things either. I don't even have a great metabolism or anything. I'm just lucky I guess. The baby's measurements were always good so the doctors were never concerned. Also, within 2 weeks of delivery both times I had lost about 20lbs (putting me under my baby- gained weight).

I only gained 20 pounds with my first and boy was I trying. I'm like you though, I really prefer to eat when hungry. Combined with genetics, this has always put me at the bottom of the healthy BMI range, frequently bordering on underweight. This pregnancy, I've had a ton more morning sickness and haven't gained anything, but at least I haven't lost any!

My doctor ended up telling me to listen to my body. He said if you're eating when hungry, you're already more in tune than most people, just try not to let yourself get too hungry or postpone eating for a more convenient time/place. And that quality of diet was more important than weight gain.

I started all of my pregnancies at a healthy/slim weight (5'2, 110ish). I gained 15lbs with my first (basically a slow 0.5lb/week gain starting around 12w) and 10lbs with my second (didn't gain anything from 20-36w). Both babies were 7.25ish lbs and totally healthy. My belly was always growing, so the doc was never really concerned, nor was I. Currently preg with LO3 and on-track to hit somewhere between the two previous gains.

My issue is that I get uncomfortably full REALLY fast when pregnant, so despite eating lots of high calorie & healthy foods (full-fat dairy, nuts, etc), it's just pretty impossible to eat enough to gain a ton of weight. Short torso problems :) Now, once the baby is out and I'm nursing, I eat like a teenage boy!

I started each pregnancy overweight, and gained 12 pounds and 27 pounds, respectively. The 12 pounds reflected low amniotic fluid, which was a concern. Your doctor will be on top of that. With the second I gained exactly the normal amount of weight.

I gained 23 pounds and am petite to begin with. I didn't try to minimize it, that's just how my body did pregnancy. My doc was never concerned!

ETA: if you're worried about the baby's size, my son was a healthy 8.5 pounds :-)
