We didn't at all, we don't have a nursery, her crib is pushed up against our bed : ) We put some decals on the wall (her part of the wall), a chest of drawers next to the crib with a few of her things on it and a mobile above the crib so it all looks very cute but was super cheap too.

We rent, so we didn't do much. As much as I love looking at cute nurseries, they really are for the parents and not the baby and we couldn't justify the time, money, or energy in going all out.

haha we just painted the walls pink, picked a crib, and that was that. I did paint the bureau to match, and spent some time finding white frames, but that was it. no large amounts of DIY or money involved!

@illumina: no shame in that :) our guests and our marriage didn't suffer due to a lack of centerpieces or programs..people spent the whole night commenting on how amazing our vows were, which is where we put the bulk of our energy and time. Baby won't suffer either. :)

Thanks ladies... I don't feel so much of a failure anymore.

@JoJoGirl: I was the same with our wedding last year, I put a bit of effort in, as in the minimum required, but compared to friends that were getting married around the same time, I felt I hadn't done enough. I guess I don't get as "into" things as others, or that material things don't matter.

DS is 2+ and he still doesn't have a room. We bought a crib he never sleeps in, put a changing pad on an old IKEA table, and filled an old plastic drawer tower and a few baskets with his clothes and accessories. I'm sitting here 6 months pregnant with #2 and the only thing I plan to buy is more diapers-- because I'm a cloth addict ;)

Babies literally only need their parents' love, clothes milk and diapers. It's awesome to see beautiful nurseries and if I had a bigger home and more money, I might have done it for fun, but it's not necessary at all!

My son has a room with a crib, dresser, and a glider, that's it. We moved into our home back in October and I did not get around to decorating his room and he came two weeks early. My husband also put a full size bed in his room in case we have guest over so on one side of the room it looks like a nursery and the other size is a guest room. lol I am sure my son doesn't misses the decorations.

we bought a crib, but all the other furniture in our nursery was stuff we already had. we did buy organizational stuff for the closet and for books/toys, but that's about it. there is nothing up on the walls. i think it's fine, and i like it.

We're moving in May, to another rental, in hopes of affording a house a year from now. It really bums me out to not be able to create something permanent. We likely won't get to paint the walls or put up wallpaper that I'd like to, but I'm going to do what I can to make it still something cool. I don't think your baby (or mine) is going to care at all what the room looks like or the fancy sheets they sleep on. I say as long as they have somewhere to sleep and food to eat, you're doing a fabulous job as a mother! Nothing else really matters.

We won't be having a nursery at all until Future-LO is older, since she'll be in our bedroom the first 6 months and we anticipate both sets of our parents coming and staying in our second bedroom for a while after she is born. There's no sense in setting that room up as a nursery now, since we can't go in there in the middle of the night while we have visitors.

We didn't do much to the nursery either. We are also renting so I didn't want to pain and repaint when we moved. We just put wall decals up and got furniture and some wall hangings. We are probably going to keep it exactly the same for this baby too. DS doesn't sleep in there anyway so no reason to change it at this point (our spare room DH uses when he needs to leave at 2am for work).

We bought cribs, a cheapo glider, a can of paint, and two prints for the wall. Finally bought curtains now that they are 8 mo. You are not doing anything wrong :) Our house isn't decorated to the hilt anyway, so it wouldn't be logical for our nursery to be.....

Oh lord, you are not failing your baby! We own and I couldn't possibly care less about decor in the nursery. We didn't paint, we didn't hang stuff on the walls, we haven't done anything except stick some furniture in there. I feel the same way about this as I did about my wedding.... we didn't have favors or flowers or a color scheme or anything "crafty".. just vows and good food and a DJ and it was perfect. :) Do whatever you're most comfortable with!

You are not alone, and we are in a house we will probably live in forever. I just see doing more decorating when Lowly is old enough to have some input. Until then she doesn't need a fancy space, just one that is functional and comfortable. My oldest has a "decorated" room, although it's not over-the-top by any means. But she's six.

Reading posts on here, I sometimes think that I'm the only one not putting much effort into creating/decorating a nursery. We are planning to move a couple of months before LO arrives in September and will be renting, so there's probably a limit as to how much "decorating" we can do. Our plan at the moment is just to buy a few essential pieces of furniture and maybe some nice curtains and bedding to put in one of the spare bedrooms, which will be the nursery for the time being.

Anyone care to reassure me I'm not alone and won't be failing my baby!
