@Mrs. Bee: We don't have them in the UK unless there's a specific problem - then you are referred to the hospital, where you see whichever Gynecologist is on duty that day until the problem is solved and you are discharged.

The GP's practice nurse deals with smear tests etc, any female concerns that might require examination are dealt with by the STD clinic (yes, that's right! If I get thrush I have to go to the clap clinic and sit in the public waiting room...) and pregnancy related issues are dealt with by midwives (unless you are high risk).

I have a gp that I go to when I am sick during the week - if its the weekend I go to a minute clinic or something similar. I LOVE my ob/gyn though and would prefer to just go to her. "most" of my issues are women related anyway so she always helps me

I used to have a gp do everything (back when I was in college), but I realized he sucked at Pap smears after I had my first gyn appointment (at 23)! I didn't know they weren't supposed to hurt!

I've just got a GP. I've never been to on obgyn. here it's typical to just see a GP for everything. even LO goes to the same GP, not a pediatrician.

I have always had a PCP and an OB/GYN. I saw my OB/GYN for years - even when I thought I was done having babies - because I guess it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that he specializes in lady part related issues.

I'm such a prude. I don't want a gp looking at my lady parts. I just want a lady parts doctor looking at them!!! Once someone looks down there, I can never look at them the same!!! What's wrong with having two separate doctors?

Not at the moment. I'm not really comfortable going back to the OB who delivered my baby... Nothing that happened was her fault, but it was just such scary experience I'd prefer a new start.

When I lived in PA, I had a GYN (she didn't do any OB) and then, when she moved away, an OB/GYN. My GP there didn't do Pap smears, which I guess is pretty common in that area. Otherwise, I've always seen my GP for routine stuff and I love the convenience. However, since the MW group I'm going to for prenatal/birth stuff now is totally awesome, I might use them for routine stuff in the future so I have an excuse to go back and visit them :)

I had a wonderful OBGYN when I lived in Philly. One of my few regrets about leaving the city was that she wouldn't be the one to delivery my babies!
