Although, my inlaws have come for new years the past 2 years because DS's birthday is just a few days before, so we've celebrated his birthday and new years with them. His grandmother is only 1.5 hours away so it's easier to do thanksgiving there, with the baby. And we switch off Christmas- my family is a 4 hour drive, his is cross country, and it will be easier to fly with a five month old than 17 month ok'd next year. My DH used to work every holiday and now he gets a week off. However, we need to be close to home for monitoring appointments for our FET this year. I definitely feel a bit of guilt. My dad is going to come visit us instead. One year we went to India, one year to Prague and this year we're going to Patagonia. If/when we have a LO I think we may try to keep up the "tradition" of doing a family trip (just us and LO) to somewhere interesting every few years over the holidays, as it is somewhat easier to get time off work/school over the holidays and can be a great time to travel to many places that are farther afield. But Thanksgiving and Christmas weren't really big holidays for my family anyway. Since I moved to New York, she usually goes to Korea for the holidays to visit her family.</p> <p>I think starting from next year we'll visit my family over Christmas, but most years it's just our little family unit for Thanksgiving and Christmas because our families are so far away.</p> <p>What about you? </p>
