LO was swaddled the whole time she was in NICU (almost two months!) and loved it. The minute she got home she hated it. We even tried the Velcro swaddles and you could hear her ripping out of it in the middle of the night. We just went to jammies/sleep sack and she did much better!

My baby hated the swaddle so we sort of gave up. When we started putting her to sleep in the crib, though, she would startle. Sometimes, if I had time, I'd just stand there and hold her hands until she was in a deep sleep, but other times we'd put her in the Halo swaddle-sack and let her fall asleep, then Velcro her arms into the swaddle. She would still manage to wiggle her arms out eventually, but it kept them pinned long enough that she wouldn't usually startle awake and I could go get other stuff done.

It really depends on the baby and if yours is cool without it, then that's great! One less thing to wean from :-)
My sister's 3rd baby didn't like it so she never was swaddled. My son has gone through every sleep contraption for every stage so far. Each baby is different!
Halo also makes a sleep sack with swaddle Velcro wings that you can wrap around their arms for traditional swaddle or under their arms and around their chest so they still have that secure feeling but arms out. Might be an option if you think she likes the security of a swaddle but arms out.
We also used the Love to Dream once he started breaking swaddles, but still needed to be swaddled. Absolutely loved them!

@dc yoga bee: I really really love the love to dream swaddle. It's a pouch style but the can sleep with their hands above their head. Baby girl loves it too! :)

I didn't swaddle DD. She just hated it and it didn't help her sleep any longer. I let her sleep on her tummy in the sleep sack and she was much happier. She would turn her head and suck her thumb to all sleep.

Just depends on your baby! We use the SwaddleMe swaddles and most of the time can't get her arms out. She definitely sleeps longer like this. We don't do it for naps though so she understands that swaddles are part of her bedtime routine. But your babe is likely different! I also like the swaddle for feeding at night - our LO gets so active and pushy and distracted by her hands!

Our daughter gets angry sometimes when we swaddle her and tries to get her arms out. The miracle blanket works really well. I think eventually we'll switch to the halo sack with arms out but for now I like that she can't startle herself awake, and it's also easier to nurse her in the middle of the night in a swaddle.

We mostly didn't swaddle LO as well. I tried, I had swaddled many babies and they all loved it so I couldn't figure out why my LO didn't like it! She got so mad when her arms were confined. So we had a halo swaddle and we would just leave her arms out and velcro the swaddle arms around her trunk. I did get annoyed with the fact that then she would startle and wake herself up so what I started doing was waiting until she was asleep and then tucking her arms down and velcroing them down. She would sleep more soundly then but almost always would have busted out by morning and I usually wouldn't reswaddle her. Eventually she just busted out right away and we switched to the zipadeezip and now we're all happy!

I didn't swaddle until she was a few weeks old, which was short lived and I ended up settling on sleep sack with the arms out. I don't know if it's any different than just pajamas but I guess it makes me feel like I'm doing something as far as the nighttime routine.

Definitely don't need a swaddle! And depending on the temperature of your house, a sleeper under a sleepsack is ok too. We kept our house pretty cool with the AC the summer LO1 was born so I never worried about him being too warm and we often did sleep sack and sleeper together.

Follow your baby - not what the books say. If she is happy without a swaddle, go for it.

Neither of my boys were really swaddled. DS1 used the Velcro swaddled with his arms out from the beginning. DS2 used a sleep sack as soon as he got home from the hospital. I just had a long sleeve footed sleeper on under it.

He seemed to want his hands free, so I left them out and he slept in the Rock n Play, so his sides were supported and he wouldn't startle in his sleep.

My DS is 4 weeks and we're not currently swaddling. He didn't like his arms in and stuffing his feet in the swaddle me wasn't really doing anything for him. Plus, it's one more thing to mess with during feeding/changing. He's been plenty warm sleeping in footed sleepers.

I never swaddled my son because it was super hot and he was a hot sleeper. It was a blessing in disguise because then I never had to wean him from the swaddle either. I would think in your case it's best not to swaddle if your daughter is pulling the blankets up near her face, since it can become a safety issue.

My son usually just wore a sleeper and was warm enough. But if she is happy in what she is wearing, go for it!

@dc yoga bee: my baby was not.able to be swaddled. The night she was born she busted out, repeatedly, even out of the nurse's swaddle! She also rolled around her crib that very night- she'd put her legs up in the air and slam them down to the side, thereby twirling her around, enabling her to roll around her crib! I never found a swaddle that worked. Also, she rolled onto her stomach very early in the swaddle and that wasn't okay imo.

LO has broken out of just about every swaddle so far. This includes all the swaddles the nurses did. She kicks out of them, and pulls the fabric up by her face. Dr. Google tells me both you should swaddle, and not to swaddle. Anyone out there just do something different? Right now we have her in a halo sleepsack with her arms out and a basic white long sleeve tee to keep her arms and chest warm. She is loving it, and finally fell asleep on her back. Can I just do this for sleep? Also, DH is curious about just putting her in a sleeper for nighttime. I would think the sleep sack is a bit warmer though.
