@Mrsdaredevil: @krsmall: See these two contradicting views? This is why bc is so annoying. I probably won't go back on it but I like to know that the shot doesn't drain milk supply just in case I get in over my head with LO #1 and end up needing bc.

My friend had a surprise baby when she missed one of her shots. She had to get a pregnancy test before they'd give her a shot again and she found out she was pregnant.

@Mrsdaredevil: oh no no no I use "ebf" to mean not doing formulas...I will be doing water & solids for sure.
@krsmall: That's the same q I posted to your wall! I loved the shot when I was on it in college & if I get to the point after having 2 that I genuinely don't want more or need a long term break then I'll get on it again. It's just that it took me 6m to get pregnant after stopping it and my doctor said it was the culprit. After it left my system I got pregnant the first try.

I haven't noticed any supply issues. The shot is not bad at all, they have to give it in a muscle. So they give it to you on your butt cheek.

we had been married not even 3 months when i got my BFP. we had went off birth control, but figured it wouldn't happen right away so i wasn't temping or anything because i didn't want to go crazy with it so we were just seeing what happened. the month i got my BFP i thought for sure i was getting my period so it was a suprise in that we weren't expecting it so soon after the wedding, but were pleasently surprised. i'm hoping we have the same luck with #2

@spaniellove: of course not everyone gets pregnant on their first try. But if you're having sex on a regular basis without protection (or avoiding times of the month, etc) and you don't have known fertility issues...you are still TTC, right? That was my point; I don't understand why there have to be so many various categories and why if you are not seeing a fertility specialist, charting, temping, etc. people say they are not TTC. Women have more value than simply their ability to bear children; I'm sorry if anyone has ever made you feel that way, and wish you luck with your journey.

I had a surprise baby. My BC was making me sick so I went off it. I tried charting to avoid pregnancy and ended up getting pregnant right after coming off birth control. We were going to start trying to conceive not long after we got pregnant so it was a very happy surprise! I decided to go on depo after our LO was born because I want to be able to enjoy our LO and his milestones and I'm afraid I'd get pregnant right away again without any protection.

I will never go on BC again...I will be EBF for 12m, other than that, i'd like to get pregnant close to #1 and then again, wouldn't mind if it took awhile either. Never will I chart again...ever.

@cvbee: well I had a super bad year health wise. Chronic UTIs and kidney stones, and I had just found out I had endo. I was at the doctor every week it seemed like! I was seeing a specialist and she told me that because of the endo, it could take us a while to get pregnant and maybe it would be a good idea to get off the pill since I had been on it for 6 years and see how my body would react. we decided we were going to practice NFP until we wanted to conceive, about 2 years down the road. Well, once I got off BC two months passed and I still didn't get a period. My body was so out of whack! I kept telling myself I would start charting once my period came, and it never did. I got pregnant immediately (we had been married 4.5 months).

I am so not a type A person at all so having a surprise baby was totally okay with me. Im super go with the flow but my DH is the opposite so I was terrified to tell him! After a couple days I finally told him when we were out walking our dog and he was super quiet at first. But after two weeks or so he got really
excited and then cried his little eyes out when we had our first ultrasound!!

Sorry about the horrible writing I am on my phone!

Still TTC here and can say there will be no surprise baby for us. If I hadn't done the whole charting and OPK deal and finally gone for testing we wouldn't have known that it's pretty much impossible for us to have a baby on our own.

I wish it was that easy for me. I had cycles of 100 days, so I didn't chart or temp or anything (just was waiting for them to regulate). I think I got pregnant on my first "normal" cycle, but it took me 13 months to get to that point (using metformin). I would love for #2 to be easier, but I don't know if that is in the cards.

@cvbee: not charting led to more disappointment than charting because I would think that I was super late and be so sure I was pregnant and then take the test and be not. I had longer cycles than most, so charting at least gave me some insight into when to give up hope for that month.

This put into words exactly how I feel about charting :) It makes my hopes more realistic. Like, I know for sure this isnt the month since I know DH was gone around O date, so there is no chance, no hopes dashed.

LO was a surprise; although since we had unprotected sex; it wasn't totally a surprise. First time we didn't use protection in 5 years and 9 months later..whoa lol. I'm always sort of amused how apparently "trying to conceive" these days only seems to mean temping, charting, kits, books, etc. You'd think we were the first generation to ever "try to conceive" babies ;)

FYI I was a TTC freak and was OBSESSED with temping and charting. I believed in temping so much, so when we conceived I was so sure I knew exactly when according to my charts, but then I was 10 days off somehow. And then baby was 2 weeks even earlier than that. (So 24 days earlier than I had obsessively calculated).

For those who didn't chart, and say that the disappointment would be too much, I found that not charting led to more disappointment than charting because I would think that I was super late and be so sure I was pregnant and then take the test and be not. I had longer cycles than most, so charting at least gave me some insight into when to give up hope for that month.

We didn't chart or schedule anything, but prepared for a few months ahead of time (cut out alcohol, caffeine, started on prenatals, etc.) and then stopped using protection. I was not very regular so I tested the first month.. and the second month we were pregnant! I consider us to be lucky, other family members have struggled with infertility.

It took 9 months for us to get pg with Harper and we were SUPER actively TTC, and I totally have a fantasy that one day I'll be one of those "Whoops! My period's late!!!" people. The whole concept fascinates me!!!!

I'm not going on BC after she's born. Whatever happens, happens. If it's in our plan to have kids close together, then so be it. I hope I never have to go back to the roller coaster of TTC. Now that I know all my "parts" work and we can have a baby, I think I'll just roll with it;)

We were actively TTCing with the baby we lost and with Emma (conceived both in one cycle though) because I'm too Type A for NTNT. Maybe in four or five years when we decide to have baby #2 we'll have a more laid-back approach.

"Whoops!" babies always puzzle me- after TTCing and seeing so many other women struggle for their THB's it seems like an alternate universe in which babies just accidentally happen. Which is ironic because I am one, lol.

@Foodnerd81, @Coco Bee: i feel the opposite! i don't think i could handle the pressure of actively ttc... the temping, charting, books, websites! i feel like it would be so disappointing every month if i was trying so hard for something and couldn't accomplish it. who knows though... maybe if things hadn't gone the way they did, i may have decided to ttc after a few months..?
