I would turn the sound off/down and look at the video when she woke up to see if she was worked up &amp; needed soothing or not (basically was she crying while laying down still or standing up!). We also had to let her learn to self-soothe, and checks made her angrier, so the video let me see her without her knowing. We stopped using the monitor with her around 8 or 9 months.</p> <p>Then we moved to a house with kids' rooms on the first floor and the master on the third floor. At that point, just a sound one would've been fine, but we still had the video monitor so used that. We can hear DS from anywhere in our house so it's unnecessary. I finally bought a cheapie audio only one recently though when he spent the night at my parents house. We live in a relatively small apartment so I can hear everything. He had been STTN for months at that point and our bedroom is just down the hall. We use it occasionally if he's sick but overall we don't anymore. I'm pregnant with #2 and requested a double video monitor. Ours broke, we gave up on rigging up old iPhones, and one night just went to sleep with both doors open. Our rooms were right across from each other. Honestly, we only use it when we decide to sit on the deck after the kids are in bed and with it being snowy/cold it's not being used. I hear her the minute she wakes up, our room isn't far away so I don't really feel the need. What about you? anyone else not use oen? </p>
