@MamaChin: Understandable! It's not as bad as I thought it would be  I have lived for my quiet time during naps, but actually right now it's just my youngest I need an escape from :silly:

@lemondrop: I'm so scared to drop nap! Little sister is just transitioning to one nap so I was looking forward to mornings together and then a long break in the afternoon. DS only get 10 hours at night so I doubt we'll be dropping any time soon. Can't push up bedtime cuz daddy comes home at 8:15 and bedtime is at 8:30.

@BabyBoecksMom: it's actually been awesome! I was dreading it, but when he started pushing bedtime past 10pm, I had to. I love not being shackled to the house in the afternoons right now! E is down to one nap either before or after lunch, occasionally one more in the late afternoon, and I give Cam quiet time of iPad or a movie so I can get a few things done.

Dropping that nap was really one of the best decisions- we can have date nights at home again after 8:30/9 on nights I don't work on campus.

@lemondrop: You dropped naps for C?? I'm terrified to do that! W fights sleep all the time, and even more so when she's exhausted.

For us it was mainly just falling asleep at night. Some days he would fight naps, so he just had quiet time in his room a couple days a week when he chose not to nap. We dropped the nap at 3 since he started staying up later and later. Now with no nap, he pretty much just drops off to sleep instantly after reading for a few minutes. We read two books, give him another to read and a nightlight. The nightlight has worked wonders as well.

I didn't have a regression at 2.5. Our last bad one was about 18 or 20. It felt like forever, but it did end. We don't ever stay in the room, we do our routine, leave, and if he cries hard, one of us goes back in. During normal times this happens occasionally. During a bad regression we may have to go back in 3 times. It's tough to be forced to stay in until he's asleep!

One trick working super well for us right now (2.5+) is to pretend he's a train or a bus going in his train garage etc. I'll tell a story about "Dylan train" and then talk about him sleeping in his train garage. He loves it!

@MamaChin: Does he already have his 2 yr molars in? Most kids aren't bothered by them, but they might be a little sore and he could only feel them at night?

We constantly have to battle our daughter for sleep. We went through a regression, but it's getting better. First, she wanted us to lay down with her until she fell asleep. Then we moved to just sitting on her bed... after a little while, we were able to just read her a book and tell her goodnight.

DS has been a really good sleeper since we sleep trained at 6 months. All of a sudden last week he would not nap, screaming and crying until I got him out. Then the fireworks over the weekend made it so he couldn't sleep at night either without one of us in the room with him. He takes forever to fall asleep, probably overtired from shitty car naps, and although still sttn, will wake up at 6am, as opposed to his usual 7:30-8. So now I'm sitting in his room for naps and bedtime and I hate that I'm fostering a bad habit. He is also going through some separation anxiety, clinging to me all the time, doesn't want his dad and crying at drop off. It could be worse but it's not been easy, esp with a 16 month old going through the same separation issue. Any tips or advice are welcome!!
