We're open to only having one, partially because it's been so difficult to get pregnant with our first (we're on cycle 13, have had a chemical and a miscarriage). We definitely don't want more than two, but the second is negotiable. We've always thrown around possibly adopting a second someday.

I'm also an only child. It was nice growing up because I was spoiled, but now that I am older i wish i had a sibling. Someday when i get married i would definitely love to have another child so Jovani has a sibling. I'm just so grateful that i have him, he is such a blessing.

We are considering it. We both grew up with siblings but we're not sure we want to have more than one. We want to be able to offer things to our child/children. We'll see after this one comes around how we feel and then decide if we want to add a sibling.

omg, yin, I feel exactly the same way. I have the age issue on top of that though, I'm already 36 and feeling closer to 40 every day.

I always thought I would have two kids but we are also having trouble staying pregnant. So I would be happy with at least one healthy baby!! :)

@justlikeheaven - Sorry to hear that you're having a lot of trouble with your first pregnancy. It definitely wasn't bad at all for me as an only child. DH has a brother, isn't that close to him, and can't really depend on him. I know they say that you can always depend on your family but I don't agree based on what I have observed of their relationship. I have a lot of friends who are more dependable than his brother is to him.

I have always wanted two or three kids. However I have been having such a difficult time with my first pregnancy (severe nausea, anemia and so on) My husband says he doesnt want to see me go through this again and only wants one. He would rather focus all his energy and attention to one. I have an older brother. He is 6 years older than me, so I did grow up a bit alone and always wished for a sister or brother my age. Im not sure how I feel about an only child but since I see that you write it wasnt so bad.... Its actually opened my mind a bit.

We agreed on only 1 before we got married. Having kids was one of our major issues before getting engaged and having one is kind of our compromise. I would prefer 2, but I will love that 1 tons!! DH is 42 which is one of the reasons...

I always wanted more than one kid.. but honestly after having Eli.. I'm not sure if I am up for another baby. I had an extremely easy pregnancy, labor, and delivery. But now that I am taking care of a newborn (he is 9 weeks now)... I don't know if I can do this with another baby! I'm exhausted and it's really tough on me. I do feel guilty not giving him a sibling... we'll see...

I'm open to it. I'm an only child myself. I used to be adamant about 2-3 kids but as I've gotten older, I'm not anymore. I still think two would be nice, but we'll see how it goes when we have 1. Being an only child gave me advantages in maturity and independence that a lot of kids didn't have, I think. [There were no 'kids tables' or catering to the children during holidays, dinners and and get-togethers, etc... just was a different way to grow up, and looking back on it I think I'd like my child/children to grow up the same way.]

It's not for financial reasons--more just lifestyle.

At first I had planned on having 2 kids, but now I am more open to the possibility of just 1 for now. Being a SAHM and caring for my LO has been difficult for me. Living in the moment it is hard to see myself taking care of an infant and a toddler by myself. My husband wants another already so that our LO will one day have a sister or brother. Of course I feel bad not giving my son a sibling. So for now I am content with just my LO, but I know that one day that might change. The day can be next week, next month, next year, or years from now.

we've had such a hard time conceiving, i think we would have been happy with only 1 child, but if we were only able to have 1 child, we would definitely adopt. i come from a big family so i definitely want my kids to have siblings.

I think that we're going to wait and see how we do with the first one. I would be ok with one but I could possibly be convinced to go for #2. That's my max though. Haha.

I am an only child and never longed for a sibling but a lot of people seem to think that not giving your child a sibling is a bad thing. I am still undecided if I want #2. Just wondering if anyone is actually planning on only having one? Maybe even for financial reasons?
