@Mrs. Sunshine: I'm with you on the portion control! I always definitely noticed that while paleo (11 months of BFing paleo and 8 months paleo before getting pregnant again) I ate so much more food portion-wise. But I was thin and my weight was always the same so I just ate whatever as long as it was paleo and it was fine. But I have felt during this past week doing it pregnant that I have eaten like a HORSE. You should see the damage that I did to that WF rotisserie chicken tonight lol. It just takes more to fill me up without a lot of carbs or my stomach feels "burny." Very technical term but that's the only way I can describe it. So that's why I'm allowing myself sweet potatoes, etc when I feel like I need it so I don't get that burning feeling. I'm eating meat like a boss lol!!!

@PrincessBaby: the entire time I've been Paleo I've either been breastfeeding or pregnant so I guess I've never been super "traditional" about it but I definitely feel better when I'm actively eating that way. My portion sizing is going to need a huge adjustment once this baby is born/weaned!

@brady80: since making the Chia seed pudding the first time I am absolutely obsessed. I've been buying little 98 cent bags of them but I think I'm going to spring for the big $10 container next time. Seriously. I can't believe it took me so long to try them!

I'm not paleo or pregnant, but we are trying to make some better choices these days. I made chia seed pudding the other day and it's amazing. Literally chia seeds and almond milk or coconut milk, put it in a mason jar and shake it several times. It can keep in the fridge for 5 days. super easy breakfast or snack

I'm bumping this and just wanted to add some easy stuff I found...I am queen of "quick paleo" and I never make time to do any elaborate stuff. Especially when I'm solo parenting...

I am allowing myself more paleo carbs than when not pregnant, bc I 'll feel crappy otherwise or at least until I 'm more used to it again...

TJs has very cheap already cubed butternut squash, easy to steam. They also have bags of already boiled cage-free eggs- great for snacking!

WF has "naked" rotisserie chickens that I've been keeping on hand for quick and easy meals.

Those are my little things that have helped me the past few days as I adjust to eating paleo again with no time:)

Oh and I ordered a book on amazon that has paleo crock pot recipes! I'll report back on that....

@Corduroy: just re-bumping to see if we could bother you for the answer to how your weight gain was impacted once you went paleo last pregnancy

I'll have been doing it a week tomorrow and I just continue to feel better!

@Mrs. Sunshine: oh yum! I will definitely be trying this!!!!

@Corduroy: oh interesting! Do you mind if I asked how it affected your weight gain? I was starting to notice a little weight gain all over and that, combined with just feeling yuck, made me switch back to trying paleo. I gained 33(?) I think with my 1st pregnancy (non paleo) but I gained allllll over for sure. I'm hoping my weight gain for this pregnancy will be less/better/concentrated in the belly/baby if I go back to paleo now! Do you mind sharing your experience?

I'm 16 weeks with #2 and looking forward to going back to paleo as soon as this morning sickness ends. I was paleo for 2nd and 3rd trimester of my first pregnancy.

@PrincessBaby: it's just a 1/2 cup of milk (any kind I'm sure but I use WCM because coconut milk made me sick in the first tri and now I'm scared lol) 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds and any kind of frozen fruit (I'm sure fresh would be fine but I haven't done that yet though). Let it sit for 30 minutes to overnight to allow the Chia seeds to expand and that's it. You can add honey if ypu want but I'm fine without it. My favorite right now is frozen mango chunks and I top it with chopped pistachios before eating. Yum!

@Mrs. Sunshine: I actually haven't ruled out doing the primal thing and eating cheese/yogurt. It's been easier to stick to straight paleo bc I've been off work since before Christmas but I go back next Mon and I know I'll be scrambling for food when I start to get Hangry:). What is fruit pudding? Sounds lovely!!!

I was Paleo pre-pregnancy but like you, the first tri and a vacation screwed me up! Now I just eat clean or "Primal" (meaning I include dairy and sometimes whole grains) because I'm so mother freaking hungry that I don't know what else to do. I feel my best if I incorporate plenty of healthy fats and protien. Even for snacks I need a protien and/or healthy fat. Cheese and apples, nut butter and a banana or even a banana, spinach, nut butter and whole milk smoothie. Whatever I can do to stay both healthy and satisfied. I'm working on getting all of our meals back to Paleo instead of just "clean" but I don't think I can do it for snacks. Chia seed and fruit pudding is my current favorite snack or add on to egg with avocado

:)

I have some Paleo meals on my menu coming up. Eggs, avocado, and fruit for breakfast....that kind of stuff. But then I also have cottage cheese for snacking on, so...

I was hard core paleo before I got pregnant, but feeling crappy early in pregnancy led me back to a more "normal" diet. I'm 23 weeks and just went back to paleo, mainly bc I couldn't stand the way I felt anymore. I really enjoyed the past few months of eating things I'd deprived myself of for so long, but I was just starting to feel really gross.

I've been eating paleo for 4 days now and already feel so much better, less yuck and puffy. It feels good to take control again, if that makes sense!

Is anyone else paleo and pregnant? Can you share a typical day of meals or what you eat for snacks? For me, the major disadvantage to paleo is that it's tough to eat quick when you're hungry, and pregnancy really makes that worse.

Any preg paleo tips?
