@tororojo: @Honeybee: ooh good to know! Thanks ladies! I'm just the most horrible liar ever... I don't want to give anything away and my DD catches on things quick... Haha. But I do think it's a cute idea/tradition.

@tororojo: We're pretty low key about it. Literally all we've done is move the elf at night after she goes to bed, so it's not much of a commitment on our part. I'm not the crafty, creative mommy type, lol. :)

@NYCaliMama: I actually bought an elf for my nephew this year, too. He's 6.5 and started expressing some doubts about Santa this year, so I thought an elf might bring back a little Christmas magic. Sure enough, he was super excited about his elf ("Elfy Dan", btw) and so far, it seems to have worked on keeping him more interested in Christmas.

@NYCaliMama: I have a friend whose 5-yr-old loves it! I think you could keep the ruse up if you wanted, but I also think that's totally your call.

I'm not sure we'll do this. My eldest daughter is 4.5 yo and I'm scared she'll figure it all out by now =/

I think Elf on a Shelf is so cute and I love seeing all the ideas on pinterest! I don't know if we'll do it in a few years or not...it seems like a big commitment. But very fun!

Did anyone else start Elf on a Shelf this week? Santa dropped our package by my parents' house (where we were staying over the weekend) the day after Thanksgiving. At first, I wasn's too sure if DD understood it or not. She's only 2.5, so I thought it might be a little over her head. We read the book and watched the video, but she couldn't think of a name for her elf, and she didn't seem very interested. The next day, she did seem a little more excited to look for her elf and went ahead and named her (Rosie). DD still didn't seem to care that much about it, though, and after the initial 5 minute "elf hunt" in the morning, she forgot about Rosie for the rest of the day.

Something happened on Saturday, though, and all of sudden everything seemed to click! DD woke up super excited to find Rosie, and all day she talked about how her elf was watching her and how she couldn't touch Rosie or she'd lose all her magic. It was so much fun! And this morning, DD was just as excited. She couldn't wait to get to daycare to tell all her friends about Rosie the Elf! :)

Anyone else start Elf on the Shelf this year? How is it going so far?
