We didn't find a "safe" food for him until 10.5-11 months which was only carrots and didn't really start eating until well past 1 year. I'd say around 15 months, but our situation is a little more unique. I don't expect to be consistent with it for quite some time as she is/was growing fine on just breastmilk. We felt we couldn't totally delay much longer though because the kid was READY. I try to offer her something on the tray almost every day but she doesn't really eat. And forget about the spoon. I'm not worried - I don't think anything bad happens if you don't start at 6 months. And throwing a few florets of broccoli or some peas on her tray is not too time consuming.
