@Missrachelk: Mall walking! I totally did not think of that. It's really hot where I'm at and the only option to walk is before 8 am and maybe late in the evening. But I'll have to give the mall walk a go.

the heat has been AWFUL here, too. I've started walking a lot but find that my feet get extremely swollen and hurt if I over do it. DH and I have been cruising malls (air conditioned, woohoo!) and sometimes the bike path next to our house if it's cool enough later in the evening.

@TurtleDoves: I wish I could escape the heat/humidity at night! It's still averaging 90 degrees (and equal parts humidity) here at night. That combined with working until around 8 p.m. has made it tough to get in a nightly walk.

@Missrachelk: I 2nd the mall walking and I add: try walking after sundown. I try to go out after dinner and loading the dishwasher...around 9pm. Then I come home, take a hot shower and clear out the dishwasher. I haven't been routine with it (more like sporadic) but like I said I plan to get my head in the game! Or you could walk before work when it's not hot & take the dog on a walk all at the same time

@MissRachelK: Welcome to HB - it really is a great community! :)

Thanks for all the advice/ suggestions! I, too, used to be a regular a.m. worker outer . . . at the gym between 4:30 and 5:00, and at the office by 7:30. It feels so different (and foreign) to be deconditioned! But I think you're right . . . even if it is just a few minutes a day/ a few times a week, and if it is not exercise in the traditional sense, it will still be worth the effort.

Hi! I love Hellobee and this is one of the first times I've come to the boards - I think it's going to be a great community!

@mslipgloss - I'm also in Atlanta and my midwife actually suggested doing some mall-walking because of the heat. There's a small mall near my house and I did it once and it was actually pretty good! Having bathrooms nearby is always nice : ) I only walked for about 20 minutes (well then plus some shopping) but my middie said even 15-20 minutes a day is really beneficial. So I'm going to try to do that more, at least until the weather is more tolerable. Lately I have trouble getting to bed at a decent time so morning workouts are totally not happening for me - even though I used to religiously get up at 5 and hit the gym 4-5 days a week.

I'v excercised very sporadically thru the pregnancy and also want to do what I can when I can to be as prepared as possible - I'm 28 weeks tomorrow. I just tried a prenatal pilates dvd - 10 minute solution - I relly liked it! The workout is 60 minutes if you do it all (well the last 10 is stretching) and I like the flexibility of doing only part if you don't have the energy / time. I've done prenatal yoga only once, the classes I've found really conflict with my schedule.

I think any effort is beneficial, and I find shopping / errand running to be very tiring, so that must be exercise in some shape or form too.

@Skipra: I hear ya regarding the spotting. After pre-term labor at 22 weeks, I really tried to back off of anything physical to avoid contributing/causing any further problems.

I stopped exercising regularly because of spotting and also need to start back up. I started taking one prenatal yoga class a week around 25.5 weeks and it's been really great. I'd like to do more from a video during the week but it's hard to find the time/motivation. I'm also planning to get back to the gym this week (31.5 weeks now) so I'll let you know how that goes!

I'm not quite in my 3rd tri yet (25 weeks), but just this last week I realized I have not worked out at all! I've been really slacking. I'm now trying to get back into exercising. My plan is to get up earlier and walk for 30 min - 1 hour in the morning and do my prenatal yoga DVD 2-3 times a week.

@ChrispyGal: I don't know that I can (my endurance varies wildly from day-to-day), but I feel like I need to try? There are some days where just going up and down the stairs a few times is difficult, and other days where it is no problem.

Maybe my goals are too ambitious(?), and I should just be happy with doing whatever it is that my body will allow, like just a few mintues of stretching, or 10 minutes of walking. It's even harder during the week, as I have been putting in mad hours at work, and sometimes it is a struggle just to make it through the day.

Oh man, by the time I hit 32 weeks I started to taper off the exercise completely but before that had been working out regularly. It just got too tough for me physically. My body could barely keep up with regular, every day activity. More power to you though if you can do it!

I wish! I could barely walk inside to Target from the parking lot today. Hard to believe this time last year I was running 30-40 miles a week. Boo!

@TurtleDoves: Agreed! And ditto with the weight gain. I have already gained plenty of weight (33 pounds) and am in no hurry to gain any more than I absolutely need to. In addition to helping with labor, I would also like to have enough stamina to deal with the demands of the first few months with a newborn!

@JessieJo17: Ahhhh yeah, the heat. *augh* We have been topping 100 degrees fairly regularly in Atlanta, and it has been the single biggest factor keeping me inside. :(

@Meggo5: I'm glad, too! It makes me feel so much better to know that I am not the only one. :) I think right now my plan is to walk and/or do the eliptical for 30 minutes 3 times this week, and to stretch every day for at least 10 minutes. I have found that I feel less depressed (about my body and how this pregnancy feels like it will never end!) and more in control when I just move my body, although it is more and more difficult due to discomfort and fatigue.

So glad you posted on this topic because I have been thinking the very same thing and looking for advice and ideas as well. I have walked and done light exercise throughout the pregnancy so far although it has been sporadic at best of late. I want to make sure that I have the stamina as I get closer and have the strength when the baby comes!

I have been walking and doing some swimming (when i get a chance to be in a pool or lake) but it is very sporadic at best depending on the weather. I just got a treadmill so I have to be better about walking on that! I want to get in at least 3 miles a day of walking for the next 3 months! Hopefully it cools down so some of that can be done outside!

WE CAN DO IT! (I think)
I don't have experience yet because I am in your exact boat. I enter my 3rd tri this week and I have only been working out here and there and not very heavily!
So, I am actually looking to rev it up in order to make sure I don't go passed my due date and so I can have some muscle power and stamina to get through labor!

I have a dvd for 3tri workouts (20min sessions) and I want to walk 2m a day and up it so I am walking 4 miles by 40w. My OB approved this and said a 4 mile walk would help tremendously with bringing baby down in "head down" positions in the birthing canal once I get to laboring.

Oh and I am trying to ward off those last add-on pounds that pile on relentlessly towards the end:/

Just thought I would see if any of you lovelies started working out during your third trimester? I have exercised sporadically (at best!) throughout this pregnancy, but thought that I might make a more concerted effort now (at 32.5 weeks) to work out to be better prepared for delivery.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?
