@Mrsbells: I have the exact same problem you are describing! I feel like it happens during my pumps at the end of the day and not so much in the morning. I previously tried smaller flanges, but that created different problems. I also tried larger and still didn't help. So I've stuck with the 24 and it just is what it is, I guess.

@Mrsbells: Ugh, yeah, I remember being told in the first few weeks that breastfeeding is supposed to be pleasurable, and was just like - no way. Hope it gets more comfortable soon!

Are there 3 party vendors that make an in between size? I use Spectra and they have 24, 28, and 32... and I needed an in between and was able to find one from Maymom on amazon.

I had to use the bigger size too even though it felt like it sucked half my boob into the flange.

@periwinklebee: ah ok. A lactation consultant at the hospital watched me pump with the 27mm and said she thought that was the right fit for me so thats consistent with what you were told. So frustrating since evrything says pumping didnt hurt but it does!

The lactation consultant told me it will never look like it does in the pictures and if you are in between, she'd recommend going with the bigger size... I've seen the opposite advice online, though, so not sure there's a good way to know short of experimenting...

I'm currently using the Medela Sonata pump its a new closed system pump all the parts and tubing are different from other medela pumps except the flanges. I use the 27mm flange because the 24mm is definitely too small but the 27mm hurts too and it seems like too much areola gets sucked in. There doesnt seem to be a size in between these two. Does anyone else bave issues finding a comfortable flange size?
