Thank you all so much. I guess I was just being an overly paranoid first-time mom the first time around. Zofran worked wonders for me but I was so scared of any future possible side effects from it that I chose to just suffer through my morning sickness and just bear it. I'll definitely ask my OB about the Unisom B6 thing. Thank you all!

I tried the Unisom B6 thing for a while, but when the m/s got to be horribly bad, I did take Zofran for about 10 days. It worked really well for the nausea and vomiting, but ended up backing me up so badly that I preferred the m/s and went back off of it. I was very sick until about week 18 and then it slowly eased off. I still feel pretty bad most nights, but nothing like how it was. I lost a lot of weight in my first tri, too, and didn't gain anything until the 5 lbs. recently (I'm 21 weeks). It WILL get better, it's just hard to not know exactly when that will be :( If the Zofran works for you, I say take it! It's worth it to feel like you can actually function and it's perfectly safe for baby.

I started on Zofran around the 6th week of my pregnancy. I'm now in week 20, and I'm still taking it. I've never taken it more than once per day (even though the max dosage is every 8 hours). I also managed to dial back to once every 2 days for a while, but now I'm back up to almost every day. I wish I could make it through this pregnancy without Zofran, but I would rather be able to keep my food down. Also, I need to be able to do my job, and constant severe nausea and puking during the day would seriously interfere with my productivity. As it is, the Zofran only partially relieves the nausea for me.

I took zofran in my first trimester and into second trimester. I still feel sick now at times but dont take it on a daily basis anymore (19 weeks.)
Like some said, it worked wonders some days and others were still rough. I would still throw up everyday... but at least the nausea was much more bareable.

I've been taking Zofran for about a week now. Some days it works and others not so much. Still keeping my fingers crossed that the morning sickness will go away soon

@c.sassy: My midwife recommended Unisom and B6 as well, but I was very lucky that it works for me for the most part. She said if it wasn't working we could talk about Zofran, and I was definitely miserable enough that I would have considered it!

I take Zofran almost every day - some days it seems to work pretty well (I still have nausea, but don't actually throw up), other days it seems to do nothing at all to help.

I trust my doctor and the practice is one of the best in our state, so I don't worry about taking what she prescribes me. What I do worry more about is not getting enough of the proper vitamins and nuitrients if I am throwing up all the time - that's a greater concern to me personally than taking something that has been widely prescribed for many years. (My mom says she believes she took Zofran when she was pregnant with me, and I'm 30, so its not a new drug, if that's a concern for you).

I also was prescribed a suppository pill (fun times....) which works REALLY well, but it completely knocks me out, so obviously, I only take that at night. Sorry, I can't remember the name, but I'm sure its something your doctor would be familiar with.

Even with these meds, I am still several pounds under my prepregnany weight at almost 12 weeks along.

I was so sick and wanted some Zofran so badly! Alas, all my OB would do is tell me to take extra B6 and Unisom. I too have wondered how people deal with morning sickness and a toddler. I hope you have a better than expected experience!!!

I took it daily and it sadly only took the edge off on good days. :/

The all day sickness worries me if/when I get pregnant again and wonder how people take care of their first born when they are that sick. Please let us know how that goes for you!

I have terrible morning sickness (it is still sticking around in my 2nd trimester). I take several medications actually (diclectin, maxeran, zofran, and zantac).

All of them are well tested and known to be safe for use in pregnancy, in my case, without them I am sure I would have been off work and very likely hospitalized with IV's etc. As it is, even with all the meds, I have lost weight through my first and beginning of my second trimester.

I had MAJOR morning sickness the first time around with my son. I would literally throw up every single day and felt nausea ALL DAY LONG. I was prescribed Zofran from my OB and she reassured me that it was completely safe but I still felt a bit wary taking it (I was hesitant to take any medication at all juuuuust in case).

Well, now that we're trying for baby #2, I don't think I can handle the all day every day morning sickness while taking care of my son. He's a handful already and I can't imagine running after him all day while being nauseous. So I'm just trying to prepare myself in case I end up needing to take a few of the little pills.

Have any of you ladies taken Zofran (or any other anti-nausea medication) during your 1st trimester? Were they completely safe? Have you tried something other than Zofran that worked miracles for you?
