I take Zyretec when I'm really bad otherwise I take Actifed at the recommendation of my doc. I have horrible allergies and have to switch it up every few years due to the medicine growing ineffective! I also love Aleve Cold & Sinus D when I'm feeling congested!

@mrbee: my pulminologist said Claritin is a joke as far as allergy meds go. If I wanted to avoid the prescription route, he recommended Zyrtec. It doesn't make me drowsy and does give me pretty instant relief. I take mine at night (allergies are worse at night!) and take one Bemadryl if I need something on top of it in a pinch. One Benadryl makese drowsy, two makese fall asleep.

Not now, but when my post nasal drip gets bad I'll take Claritin-D or Mucinex-D. The decongestant is what keeps me awake during the day. If I take the regular stuff, I'll be so drowsy. (The decongestant (pseudoephedrine) is like speed... or similar to caffeine. (I know this is not pharmacologically correct. Checking on it...) People buy meds with the pseudoephedrine in it to make drugs (meth) and that's why you need an ID to get it and can only get one pack at a time. That's why it's regulated.) Ok, I'm not a doctor and it appears I'm missing something in my explanation.

My dr said my post nasal drip is caused by acid reflux so I'm suppose to take omeprezole or prevacid. I don't take it as I should.

Be careful with OTC nasal sprays like Afrin - if you use them for more than a few days in a row, they can cause rebound congestion!

I take Claritin though it's pretty much a joke and Benadryl for emergencies. I'm supposed to be taking Xyzal which is a stronger version of Claritin but I can't be bothered with prescription allergy meds.

I take zyrtec every night. I find I'm better off if I take it even when I don't think I need it. If I stop, BAM.

for immediate relief, I find nose sprays work better. They get right to the source of the problem.

My allergies have gotten bad again, and it's causing problems with my lungs due to post-nasal drip. Just bought Claritin or Zyrtec today... took the Claritin today for immediate relief, and will try the Zyrtec at night sometime since it causes drowsiness.
