I was tested in July last year, and I think had results in 3-4 days. They did tell me 7-10 days but it came back faster every time. Several of you on this thread commented on one of my threads then and eased my mind then so wanted to say thanks again!

@SweetiePie: ugh I totally get it. I’ve heard of people getting their results much sooner, and I think its somewhat luck of the draw and proximity of lab your ob sends it to. FX you get quick results! That’s awesome that he’s over 7lbs! I think you’re right that either outcome, the RCS will be a smoother experience, maybe a little sooner than you were expecting but hopefully not!

@Anya: 😩 that’s what I’m afraid of. But for some reason being scheduled without being tested makes me feel so weird! What if it’s psychosomatic and I’m just kind of imagining it since I was about this far along last time. And I was on the low end of bile salts but still over the threshold. What if I’m just imagining it.

It’s an RCS so I guess it would be a different (better) experience than last time when I was induced at 37 and it was long and awful and failed and THEN I had a CS. Plus this baby is already really big (according to their measurements last week at ultrasound he’s already 7lbs!) so maybe it’s for the best? But ugh ugh ugh I thought I might have avoided it this time. I kept joking that I hoped I’d have it because I’m so miserably large and my back hurts and I’m over being pregnant but now I’m kind of panicking.

It took 7 days for me
I wouldn’t be surprised if you were scheduled for 37 as soon as you report your symptoms. I think it’s pretty uncommon to NOT have in subsequent pregnancies. Hope your itching isn’t too bad and good luck!!! :goodluck:

@LCTBQE: yeah because of how long it takes they handle it based on how far you are along. If you’re showing obvious symptoms and you’re like 35+ weeks they might just opt to do it at 37 since waiting for results past 37 weeks can be fatal. Likewise if you’re 37+ weeks I don’t think they’d bother testing if it seems pretty likely you have it based on symptoms and 37 is considered full term. So since I’m 35.5 weeks AND I did have it last time I feel like she might just want to schedule for 37 and as much as I bitched to you about wanting this baby out and hoping it happens ASAP, I’M NOT READY 😂 Basically I’m afraid to report my itching to her even though I know I have to.

But if results somehow are faster now and we can avoid unnecessary 37 week delivery Id be way more relaxed.

That seems so crazy, I thought this was a condition that imparted some urgency--you wouldn't think the test would take a freaking week and a half. Hang in there :meh:

I had the test done last year, and if I'm remembering right, there were 2 parts of the test--the first was just a day or two, but then the second (I think bile salts?) took more like 10 days. So, it wasn't certain until that second test, but because I was negative from the first test my dr wasn't too concerned. I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I didn't end up having cholestasis but was so, so itchy and it SUCKED.

@LCTBQE: I know right! Now I’m actually nervous. Haha. well from what I understand it’s a very standard test. It’s more like a culture where there’s a set number of days that they need to get results. So I don’t think it matters much what the doc does, BUT if science has made improvements in the last few years maybe it’s quicker now?

@SweetiePie: maybe you willed it  can you just ask your OB how long it would take?? maybe this office does it differently than your old one.

Has anyone been tested recently (let’s say in last 12 months). How long did it take for results?

I had it last pregnancy and it took 10 days for results. I’m having similar itching again now at 35.5 weeks and she told me last appt not to mess around if I feel it again. But I’m wondering how long results would take, because if it’s still 10 days I’d be right at 37 weeks which is when they want baby out.

Thanks!
