How old is your baby? it seems spit up gets worse when baby is around 4 months (from what I've read). Not sure if it's bc they become more active.

Our LO went through the exact same thing you are. He has been on Advance since birth and has had spit-up, gas, fussiness. We switched him over to similac sensitive 5 days ago and the problems pretty much disappeared. My husband went out in the middle of the night to get him the new formula after LO could not be consoled after an hour of crying. We could tell how uncomfortable he was and we could not bear to feed him any more of the Advanced. Our ped told us as he gets older we'll probably be able to switch him back to Advanced since their needs and tolerances are constantly changing. He is 8 weeks old.

Good Luck

We tried Enfamil AR and it made it worse so we went back to gentlease after 1 can. The dr said not to worth if she doesn't seem to be in pain, so now I don't.

We were the same as you. Similac advance from birth and CONSTANT spit up. We did everything they tell you (feed them upright, keep upright after for 30 mins, etc...) to in order to keep them from spitting up bit nothing worked. Thought about switching but doctor said probably wasn't worth it.

Now DD will be 6 months old in 9 days and she hardly ever spits up! Id say once every other day. We're still amazed that she (AND me) could be in the same outfit all day. We still use similac advance too

@artbee: I'm definitely going to give them a call tomorrow!

@Mrs. Jacks: Good point! That's what makes me hesitant. I would hate to go down that roller coaster.

@MamaBehr: We are just a few weeks away from 4 months, so let's hope it slows down!

@bree72: I will definitely chat with them tomorrow on this. I pack at least 5 bibs and 5 burp cloths for every trip! lol.

@calsmom: How early did you start the spit up formula? It seems like her spitting up has gotten worse, but I think it may be just because she is eating more.

@chrispygal: My son is fed the Similac spit-up. He still spits up a ton though. He's not in pain from it. I'm considering trying the Advance again to see if there is much of a difference.

Having a child with painful reflux, I suggest not switching if your LO is not uncomfortable. I'd stick with the Advance, and maybe talk to your ped about trying a bit of rice cereal in her bottle. The formulas that are for spit-up act similarly, but you wouldn't be switching formulas. But honestly, if she's not bothered by it, it's really just a laundry problem. Believe me, I don't leave the house without at least 2 extra onesies and 5 burp clothes.

I never switched formulas for spit up issues. My LO spit up, but I wouldn't say it was a lot. However, I did read that the spit up comes to a crescendo at 4 months and then lessens. My LO is almost 8 months and I have noticed less spit up.

I am not a big fan of switching formulas to try and eliminate problems. Usually you are trading one problem for another and before you know it, the kid has been on virtually every formula with symptom after symptom... and then some well meaning doc switches to alimentum or pregestimil or some other fancy expensive formula that you can't easily afford.

I say don't mess with success!

My lo had reflux and constipation so we had to try a few formulas to find something that would work for her. The problem with the thicker formulas which are good for spit up is that they make you more constipated. We ended up with gerber good start gentle.

I would talk to your doctor about it, they could probably lead you in the right direction.

We have used Similac Advance since LO was in the hospital and while she's never seem to have had a big issue with it, her spitting up has not slowed down at all. She spits up a LOT, which I know can be normal, and she does not seem to be in pain. Sometimes she'll fuss before the spit up, which I assume is from a bubble, but many times she'll be smiling and spitting up at the same time. Most of the time it's liquid, and maybe 10% of the time it's curdled a bit. Similac makes a formula specifically to help prevent spit up. I guess it has added rice starch. Has anyone ever tried this? Did it help?

For those that did not change formulas, did the amount of spit up decrease after cereal was introduced? We are less than a month away.
