@Autumnmama79: Just FYI, I am not allergic to anything EXCEPT lavender and I found out the hard way as an adult. Now with the advent of all these oils being used, I worry about kids and allergic reactions. I might suggest taking your kid to a local health store that has oils on display and do a small skin patch test before spending a lot of money on things. Generally, the citrus, mint, and thieves blends don't give people many reactions, but I know so many of these blends have lavender and floral oils that I think could be bothersome if you don't check them out first.

@gotkimchi: @Mrs D: @crazydoglady: @snowjewelz: @Mama Bird: @SweetCaroline: @Shantuck: Thank you for sharing your experiences and suggestions. I'm going to grab some this weekend, some to diffuse and a roll on as well - see how that goes.

Sadly I wish this was a regression. This is just hows it been since 6 months of age. Alas, I'll keep trying!

@SweetCaroline: It all kind of started when she started having her epic meltdowns...and we started with the "take some deep breaths"...the next time she commented about liking to lavender smell I asked if she wanted her own bottle so she could smell it when she was worked up...she was so excited...so it evolved from there. It has actually helped her want to remove herself from situations so she can deal with her own stuff...rather than just flipping out...

We had a terrible sleep regression right around my son’s second birthday where he would wake up at 3/4 am and be too wired to go back down. We bought a stoplight clock and started training him to use it by setting it to an attainable time like 4:30 am and then moving it later every few days. I know your question was about oils and not clocks but just wanted to say that I think a regression around that age is fairly normal and just like everything this too shall pass.

@Autumnmama79: I diffuse lavender I DDs room.

Have you tried magnesium? We've done magnesium baths (you can use epsom salts) as well as magnesium oil spray on the bottom of the feet. I am a big believer in magnesium and take it as an oral supplement myself.

We have lavender bath oil - it smells good, but it's never made the kids sleepy... I think valerian extract (in milk or tea) did help a little though. We still had a ton of sleep issues, but I feel like it bought me an extra half hour of sleep here and there, when I remembered to give it to DD.

@csross217: Sniffle Stopper is so good! And it doesn't smell bad either. DS had a terrible cough and it really helped.

I diffuse lavender in DD's room every night! She's a pretty good sleeper to begin with, but I think it helps to calm her down and prepare her for bed. I also like that it adds a little extra moisture to the air.

I second the recommendation of Plant Therapy oils! Their kid safe blends are amazing, especially Sniffle Stopper for colds. And, the prices are great on Amazon.

@crazydoglady: Yes I use the kid safe line exclusively too! I used to diffuse nighty night for my 3 year old, but that reminds me to get the roll-on since we now all bed share and I don't really want to diffuse with the 1 year old in the room just yet.

@Autumnmama79: Not gonna lie, I have a pretty stellar sleeper, but if anyone in the family is having issues with insomnia, I use this stuff. Plant Therapy is a GREAT brand of essential oils (I know of a couple of other HB'ers who use them.) Strict quality control, great prices, highly researched...just the best. And no MLM, you can order from their website or off amazon. Anyway, they have this kid safe blend called "nighty-night" and it smells SO GOOD and really works. You can either diffuse in LO's room, make a roller ball and dilute with oil and apply to the soles of LO's feet, or add a couple drops to the bath water. They also have it in organic.

I use oils on my girls. When they are real worked up I used either just lavender or a blend called serenity in their diffuser.

I also make a "hair spray" for DD1 (4) to spray on her hair in the morning, its distilled water w/ Lavender and Wild Orange, she has long hair so it just gives her a hint of "calm" throughout the day.

Lastly, she has rollers for her different needs...booboo, feel good, tummy ache, stressed...etc. I encourage her to own her emotions and grab a roller if she feels she needs it.

We're an oily family, we use them often. I dont believe them to be the end all but I think they do help (and trust they dont 'hurt') plus I like the angle of empowering K to identify her emotions and use her resources to work through them.

We were using a blend, I think sleepy time blend? It smelled nice and I think it was a nice bedtime cue but didn’t do anything for night wakings. Also tried magnesium lotion with no luck

Clearly I'm desperate and I think I just go ahead and try but I'm wondering if anyone has tried these for sleep before?

LO2 is nearly 2 and still not sleeping through. Despite our best efforts. Goes down nice and easy but can't seem to make it through till morning. Some days the continuous lack of sleep makes me feel like my brain is going to hemorrhage.
