Yes - we used the college nannies and tutors that I think is a national network. It was worth it for us because they eventually found us the perfect nanny - and they did all the leg work (and we were picky!). We had access to backup care when she was sick and even though LO is in daycare now we still have access to their sitters for date nights or emergency care 24/7. They even have an app to see whose available so I can see if someone we like is free. Plus they do all the taxes and the nanny gets regular job benefits.

We went through an agency after I wasn't finding any good candidates on my own the second time around. First time we did manage. Anyway, it ended up being very worth it -- still have the same nanny a year later. Agency snagged a great one in only a few weeks, took care of background checks et al, told us a lot before we decided whether to interview so our time wasn't wasted, and guaranteed another placement if something went wrong in the first 6 mos. I want to say it was 600?

I saw you are from SoCal. I was a nanny in LA and San Diego and worked mostly through agencies. I had better luck finding jobs through agencies. Care.com was still in its infancy when I lived there, and I had little luck with them. I can only imagine how it is now that it has grown to what it is. The agencies weed through nannies to find the best to represent their agency.

If you do go the agency route, I recommend Westside nannies, VIP, and Elizabeth Rose for LA/OC. In San Diego/OC, I recommend Crunch Care.

Good luck!

Long story short, our nanny left our family amicably (she turned 26 and needed her own health insurance) but quickly. I immediately started looking for a replacement but it's been painful. We finally thought we found someone but she left after a week because she heard back about another job (at a preschool). I'm beyond over the nanny search. I've been using care.com and it's been tons of phone interviews and in person interviews just to end up frustrated. So....
Anyone use a nanny agency? How was your experience? How much did you pay / how much do you feel that this service is worth?
