Husband got us the Nike/iPod sensor recently. We only use it for running because the sensor only fits into a specific Nike sneaker.

@Andrea: Maybe a gift from your LO? As long as you get him something else he actually wants haha!

Oh I forgot to mention another stat that really shook me. Apparently if a man sits for six or more hours a day, he will have a death rate about 20% higher than if he sat for 3 hours or less. For women, the similar rate is 40% higher. What really astonished me is that exercises doesn't completely erase this gap... even if you go to the gym a lot, if you sit all day then you're more likely to die. That was news to me! Here's one article touching on it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/17/magazine/mag-17sitting-t.html

That's what sold me on a treadmill desk... that plus the main characters in these two novels I read both used treadmill desks and lost lots of weight!

@Andrea: This is what I just bought... the Fitbit Ultra:
http://www.amazon.com/Fitbit-Wireless-Activity-Sleep-Tracker/dp/B005PUONIK

It keeps track of your daily steps. People say it's pretty addictive... maybe just tracking his daily activity is a first step?

@mrbee: LO will not ever sit in a stroller so going on a walk with her is barely any exercise since we go so slow but it is still something. However, this is only something we can do together on the weekends. In order to see any changes, he really needs to improve his diet and do more rigorous exercises on his own time, too.

@Andrea: Lately I've felt my memory going... I read that exercise can help slow the ravages of time and the aging process!

Does he go on walks with you and the LO?

@Andrea: If that motivation doesn't work on your DH, there have been a bunch of studies lately that show that exercise can make you smarter!

I'm so impressed by your continued commitment to health! I keep trying to do different things to help DH get healthier but he hasn't found the motivation from within himself yet so sadly, nothing has worked.

DH did, they had some sort of thing at work where they were supposed to wear them. But they never actually checked it and did the honor's system so he always made something up.

I just bought one... gonna try to walk 10k steps a day!

Tomorrow will be my first full day wearing the pedometer... we'll get to see how many steps it takes to wrangle these little monsters for just one day haha! My guess is that on most weekends, I'll hit 10k just walking around Brooklyn with the kiddos. Will definitely report back with results!

Anyone use a pedometer? How many steps do you try and walk a day?
