We got this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CWVYMI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It got torn on the trip home yesterday, but we're just going to throw some duct tape on it. It's pretty sturdy and the seat fits great.

Thanks, everyone! We bought a car seat bag for the NextFit (and checked it) during our last trip. DH would likely haul it around the airport, but that makes him grumpy, so I'm definitely going to look into getting some wheels for it! For those of you who have done FF or RF, which did you like better? I think it might be easier to interact with her if she's RF.

I've flown (by myself!) multiple times with our Clek Foonf and successfully installed it rear facing. It fits in the bulkhead seats with room to spare. It's tight or braced against the seat in front of it (which it shouldn't be) depending on the model of plane. I'm sold on a seat being safer than not, but now that DD1 is over 2, I might consider FF or a harness for her. (She was 21 months on our last flight.)

@Foodnerd81: I don't know about that carseat, but my Radian is heavy and I usually fly without DH. Luckily it is narrow enough that I can wedge it into my Britax B-agile seat and use a bungie cord to secure it. My LO is even able to ride in it while it's strapped into the stroller. I have heard of other people strapping their carseats into luggage carts and having their child ride in the seat on the cart.

We just traveled with out NextFit on the plane. It was great - just make sure you know how to install it usin a seat belt if you regularly use latch. Also the clip where you snap the seat belt together was in the car seat (as opposed to outside it like in a car) but it was right in the middle so it was under the space between her legs, if that makes sense. The hardest part was wrangling the heavy seat on/off the plane. We got a Gogobabyz Mini Travelmate which was terrific for the seat while in the airport but my understanding is all car seats are too wide to roll down the aisle of the aircraft with it.

One more note- we were able to install rearfacing since we had extra legroom seats. The seat belt clip would have hit a different spot forward facing.

@BlueWolverine: I haven't but if you do, in curious to hear how it goes. It's so big and bulky that in planning to just buy a cheaper seat to travel with, but I know we will have at least a few trips on a plane in the next few years. How would you get t through the airport? That's actually my bigger concern with it.

@BlueWolverine: I used my Diono Radian on the plane, though it was a little challenging to get it buckled in tight. When I pulled it tight, the buckle actually slipped into the seatbelt path (that tunnel in the back of the seat) and I had a really hard time unbuckling it (which was unfortunate when a flight attendant determined that we could not sit in the row behind the exit row after all and made us move before take off - all eyes were on me as I struggled for at least 5 minutes to get the freaking thing undone)! After that incident, I have just used a CARES harness. It is the only harness that is airline approved. It doesn't work as well at containing her as the carseat (there is no strap between the legs, so she can slither out the bottom), but if there was turbulence or something, it is better than just the lapbelt.

we used the cares harness--although we were on an international flight. so there was no way that LO was going to stay in the carseat the whole time and it would have been really bulky and cumbersome for the 19 hour flight.

I have traveled with our safety first guide 65, which we bought specifically for air travel. It fits great and is pretty light. I would definitely bring a carseat assuming that LO has his own seat AND you have an extra pair of hands to help you carry everything. I found having the carseat on the plane to be so much easier--he slept well in it, it contained him when I needed him to be contained, and made his seat more comfortable for him.

DD1 loved her car seat so for long flights we used to bring it and she would sleep great.

DD2 HATES her car seat so I wouldn't dream of it lol

Guess it depends on your kid. But, I loved it with DD1 because my lap and arms were free and it made the flight much more enjoyable. It was easier to feed her, let her play with toys, etc...

@looch: That's my thought - for the morning flight, no car seat. For the evening flight, car seat.

@littlejoy: Chicco says it will fit and has good instructions for airline lap belts, so that's helpful.

We've travelled both with and without the seat, it worked great when we needed my son to sleep, not so great when the majority of the flight was awake time.

Does the seat have an FAA sticker on the side? If so, it will fit. You can use the seat according to weight limits (if baby is within the RF limits for seat, you can RF, and same for FF). I would NOT use any additional harness or belt system other than the car seat straps (as your seat was not tested with other straps). We just secure the seat with the plane belt via the belt path. Your manual might have information for air travel. Our manual is worthless (it just says it's approved for air travel).

Has anyone used their NextFit on a plane? We're travelling for a quick weekend vacation next week, and we purchased a seat for LO (she turns 2 on the day we fly). Some friends have said the car seat on the plane was a nightmare and bought various seat belt attachments (see below). One of our flights is late and I want her to sleep, so I really want to just bring her seat on the plane. We don't travel by air a lot, so I don't want to buy a new, if cheap, car seat just for this trip, which means we lug around the NextFit. Has anyone used it on a plane? Did it fit in the seat? More generally, those of you who travel with toddlers, do you go the car seat, belt attachment, or just belt route?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.
