@tessabella76: exactly! compared to so many other drugs and problems, it's a relatively cheap and easy thing to remedy!

@MerryC: Forgot to add that I took Prometrium orally earlier this year when I had some issues with the lining of my uterus being too thick. My doctor had me take it at bed time because it makes you sleepy and dizzy. I think I'd rather try the suppositories!

@AlyB25: I have tried B Complex. It hasn't helped my lp but it has really helped with my PMS so it's still a win!
@MerryC: Thanks for all the info! I haven't had a chance to find out yet what my insurance covers but at least now I have an idea of what we are looking at. I told my husband this morning that if this is the only issue we have and it will help get us pregnant, I won't mind so much paying out of pocket-it's probably the least expensive fertility problem to fix.

I had a short LP as well - right about the same as you, 10 days. I will say that I tried every supplement under the sun, but progesterone was the only thing that was able to make real progress in lengthening my LP.

I take prometrium. This is bioindentical micronized progesterone that's in a little round pink gelcap. You can take it orally or use it as a suppository. Orally is easier and less messy, but it's less effective and therefore you have to take more of it and generally have more side effects (like major fatigue). I do the suppositories because it's the more effective method of putting the progesterone in the area of your body where it needs to be absorbed. It's "messy" in that you need to wear a panty liner, but it's really not bad at all.

I've also been on endometrin which is only a suppository, but is in tablet form. I think it's messier and more irritating to the pikachu, and it was a lot more expensive (like 3-4x).

As far as cost goes, our insurance doesn't cover anything for 'infertility' so we paid for everything out of pocket. Call around to get the best deal because the price can vary a LOT. Costco pharmacy is the cheapest around me, but it's still about $70 for 30 caps.

Hope that helps a little! Good luck!

I believe there are also others things you can do to increase your LP as well...some women take B6 or B complex, which is supposed to help with a short LP

I had my annual appointment with my OBGYN today and she confirmed what I had suspected-my luteal phase is a little too short. I usually ovulate on CD18 in a 28 day cycle so my lp is about 10 days. She suggested I try progesterone suppositories but we are waiting until my husband gets is SA done.

As anyone else had a short lp and have you had any experience/success with the progesterone suppositories? She did tell me that there are two different kinds: older method=more messy and newer version=less messy bio-something (sorry didn't write down-bad patient). She didn't give me the prescription yet because we are to get DH a SA and I'm to check on what my insurance covers. She did say that a lot of insurance won't pay for the suppositories (especially the newer one) because they don't recognize a short lp as infertility.
