Ps where are you in Texas? We saw a great therapist in Richardson area of DFW and she might be good to talk to. Let me know if you want her info! She runs a stuttering support group for parents too.

We had a pretty severe stutter with my oldest. I do not think it would have resolved without therapy, and the specific method we did. It started around 2.75 or so, and she had pretty advanced speech at 2.5 - apparently being behind or ahead of normal in speech are both factors. Had her evaluated by a specialist in stuttering at 3.5 and at her suggestion we started the Lidcombe method. Therapist rated her stutter at 9/10 severity at the beginning (including physical things like you mention to try to break the stutter) and we were lucky that the method worked ... like it clicked a little while in and we saw a huge improvement overnight which eventually became 100% normal. It required parent training and daily work at home but was worth it. We were paying oop but I would do it again. Honestly if you had told me it could work like that I would have thought you were crazy but preschooler brains are so flexible. Feel free to message me more questions! Finding the therapist we did was a godsend. I do not think it has to mean neuro issues. It’s such a hard thing for kids and for you! Big hugs!

Like the title says, anyone who has a LO with a stutter that is not just developmental, but a true stutter?

LO just turned 3 and has been exhibiting a stutter with secondary characteristics (prolonged eye blinking, grimacing, body tension, blocks, etc) since December. It came on suddenly and progressed very quickly. He’s been receiving private speech therapy since July and recently qualified for extra services through our local school district that will start in August.

We have seen a neurologist and gotten an EEG which showed no seizure activity and we have a followup next month. The neurologist said that if the stuttering is as frequent and severe as it was in February that he would like to order an MRI to see if there are any underlying causes for the stuttering.

Anyway, anyone with experience, advice?
